Love your talks, Mr. McGrath. You're one of the people I always go back to listening to. Been doing this for years, just never got round to mentioning it. Sound words become more and more precious as the world becomes more and more deranged. I can't believe what I'm seeing when I step out my door these days. I live an ocean away from Oxford, but I imagine taking one of your classes would be a pleasure.

--- Limitations of Scientism and Scientific Overreach 🧪 The idea of scientism is about regarding science as the ultimate standard and arbiter of all interesting questions, expanding the scope of science to encompass all aspects of human knowledge and understanding. 🌍 The very existence of an extra scientific vantage point would falsify the claim that science alone gives us a rational means of investigating objective reality. 🧠 The problem of justifying the authority of science goes beyond using science itself, leading to implications of something beyond science. 🤔 We need more than science to answer life's big questions, and relying solely on science to determine what is right or wrong is highly contestable. 🧠 Albert Einstein cautioned that the Natural Sciences are outstanding in their sphere of competence, but what about ethics and questions of meaning? 🌌 Science is wonderful at raising questions, but some of those questions, like the meaning of life, lie beyond the capacity of science to answer. 🧠 The use of rational and evidential criteria to criticize religion by Richard Dawkins highlights the importance of applying the same critical attitude to one's own ideas. 🌍 "The danger of scientific overreach is very obvious when you read the writings of Richard Dawkins, and it leads to intellectual impoverishment by limiting our knowledge and understanding of the world to a single disciplinary approach." Reconciliation of Science and Religion 🤔 McGrath shares his personal journey from being a committed atheist to embracing the importance of apologetics in relation to the Natural Sciences. 🌍 Modern scholarship has increased our understanding of intellectual history, moving away from the idea that science and religion are permanently at war. 🌍 The idea that science and religion are necessarily locked in Mortal Kombat is outdated and no longer relevant in recent scholarship. 🧐 The fundamental conflict is not between science and Christianity, but between dogmatic metaphysical naturalism and belief in God.

Dr. McGrath, have you ever read anything by Henri DeLubac? If you did can you please comment on his work? And if you haven't I would recommend you to start with "The Discovery of God", short but probably the most powerfull theological work I have ever read.

Interesting! Convid was always only real inside the cave ( TV). Outside it was normal life. We are born with a Babylon TV in our homes (cave). We don’t k ow any other reality. Secular humanism Prussian schools cement the illusions. We add Christ inside the cave instead of breaking free from the secular humanism cave setting up our own institutions. We love the seats of power and credibility, respect of the cave dwellers.

I am reading this now. Not so easy to follow. But the chapter on Spirit and Trinity are well done. I couldn't put the book down. I will definitely buy and read the companion book on Christian Theology. I find this the primer and having a more detailed book of 500pages is no bad thing.

Can this series be published as a book? It is very well put together as a series of topics and slides. Please publish because it gives us many new insights and is different from the two other major textbooks. It seems more personal

It is somewhat perplexing that one of the most eminent proponents of Christian theology in our era does not receive the audience he rightly merits, whereas average populists maintain sway over the multitudes.
