FABULOUS! What are your thoughts on creating Star Trek (2009) or Discovery style lens flares, but from scratch with effects already available in AE? Music's da bomb diggety! PERFECT soundtrack! In the words of Borat: Fun-Tus-TIESH! And as usual... thank You!

Hey there, thanks for the incredible feedback! I'm thrilled you enjoyed the tutorial and found the music fitting. FUN-TUS-TIESH indeed! 😅 As for Star Trek lens flares, that's a stellar idea! It's definitely possible to create those iconic looks using AE's built-in effects. Think glows, blurs, fractal noise, and maybe even some light streaks with CC Light Sweep. I'll add it to my list of future tutorials - it could be an epic adventure! Thanks again for the support and awesome suggestions. Keep those creative ideas coming! 🚀

Thanks for watching! I understand you're looking for a non-plugin solution. While Particular offers advanced features, you can achieve similar effects using built-in AE tools like CC Particle World, Shatter, or even shape layers with animation. I'll try to create a tutorial demonstrating these methods soon!

Hey @yesdadbut960, I'm glad you found the tutorial useful! 😊 And you're right, the Light Rays effect could be another way to achieve a similar result. However, I wanted to show you this method because it gives you more control over the look and feel of the sun rays. Have you tried using the Light Rays effect before? If so, I'd love to hear about your experience with it! If not, maybe I'll make a tutorial comparing the two methods in the future. Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in. Hi @Temp-yw6vt, you're right, the download link for the book cover and spine is no longer working. I apologize for the inconvenience! This tutorial is quite old (about 5 years) and the files might have been removed. However, you can easily find or create similar assets to use as a replacement. There are many free resources available online, or you could even design your own custom cover and spine. I hope this helps! Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

Thank you for this - it covers anchor points of the shape layer - but what about the paths ON the shape layer? You can have many shapes on 1 shape layer, called paths. If I have a square path and a circle path on 1 shape layer, how does 1 snap the anchor point of only the circle path to the center of the circle, without using Pan Behind to 'eyeball' the center point? Tried searching on Google but always get results for Shape Layer Anchor Point, not Path ON shape layer anchor point. Make sense?
@OctopusEffects
@OctopusEffects 19 күн бұрын
Hi @passion_proh-jects, thank you so much for your feedback and the idea for this tutorial. I understand your question about centering anchor points for individual paths within a shape layer. You're absolutely right, this is a different scenario that wasn't covered in the video. I'm looking into solutions for this and will try to make a follow-up video soon! Stay tuned!"

Don't forget to Corner Pin or make the layer 3D to give it some perspective. And the whole rest of the compositing process like glow, heat distortion, etc. You'd also want to make the lava interact with the edges of the volcano instead of just having a cutout to reveal it.
@OctopusEffects
@OctopusEffects 23 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing these helpful tips! You're absolutely right, using Corner Pin, 3D layers, and effects like glow or heat distortion would definitely make the lava effect more realistic. I made this video quite a while ago, about 5 years back, when my After Effects skills were still developing. I really appreciate your feedback and will definitely keep these suggestions in mind for future projects. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment!

thanks for reaching out! It sounds like you might not have the "Transfer Controls" panel expanded. It's a small arrow icon usually located at the bottom of your timeline panel. Click on it to expand the panel, and you should see the "Track Matte" option there. Thank you for the kind words and suggestion! To clarify, are you suggesting adding timestamps to specific parts of the video, or dividing the video into larger chapters with titles?
@passion_proh-jects
@passion_proh-jects 24 күн бұрын
@@OctopusEffects Whatever puts the little dividers in the video progress bar - I dunno my ass from my elbow when it comes to posting to KZfaq, that's why none of my uploads have them, but on Need For Speed TarTon's videos you can see each new race start where the video progress bar at the bottom has a dividing line. Then I can scroll to that part of the video and watch the best race to farm points... so perhaps it's timestamps? I don't know if this response is helpful in ANY way... but finger's crossed.🤞🤞

@@OctopusEffects A STAR you ARE! Thank you for sharing your experience and content. If you're thinking of a tut idea, I still don't know how to center the anchor point of a shape on a shape layer. Not the layer, itself, just the shape (but not by dragging to the center with the mouse, but by snapping - like you can on the shape layer). I saw a tutorial that uses expressions to do this, but haven't found that video again. ps Your backing music is lovely too - i might steal it and put lyrics and vocals to it :)
