question: why the U air conditioner if you still have to cut a hole in the door? Also, it's 710 watts for their smallest one. The Energy Star Frigidaire I have is only 400 watts... but no u shape. But again, I don't see the advantage of having a u shape. I guess I just didn't get it. :(

Hi, were you able to take it apart to put it thru your van? I’m in a shuttle bus. I’m also looking at all the different AC’s. In Seattle I don’t need one except maybe 3 weeks out of the year but when I’m in Texas visiting my daughter I need BIG AC. I was checking out the GE Profile ClearView Inverter Window Air Conditioner 10,300 BTU. It fits over your window like that small rv one. I want the largest I can get using the lowest amount of watts. How much does yours pull. I know you said it only went down to 70% using it overnight. I’ll be going back to your older vids. Glad to have found you! 😊

Hi. Great idea. Can you provide the dimensions of the hole needed to pass the unit through the door? Was this the smallest dimension possible, and did passing the unit require any disassembly -at 0:15 it looks like you have all the plastic covering and trim removed from the interior side of the unit to pass it through? Thanks!

Gosh that sounds frustrating how once you get past 600 watts in panels it's like the actual watts coming in starts to dwindle, so the solution was to get multiple MPPT's and to put out multiple portable panels outside and that upped the actual wattage coming in? I want to expand my array to 800 watts soon, but I worry reading about how you can get less than 750 watts with 800 watts of panels on the roof, I'm using all hard case panels with a 2" or 3" air gap under them, so far with x4 100w panels I'm getting 340 watts at the Scc, I really hope that when I double the panels to 800, that 340 is doubled to at least 680 maybe, I hope it isn't wishful thinking heh
@NoLimitVanLife
@NoLimitVanLife Ай бұрын
I think it should double it and if you point the panels at the sun when you can, you’ll get even more power over the course of the day Multiple MPT’s is a good thing because then they run cooler
@mark7362
@mark7362 Ай бұрын
@@NoLimitVanLife oh good, thank you, yea that's much better plus if you have multiple MPPT's you can use many different sized solar panels put together. know what's funny is as soon as I wrote that comment I looked at my SCC and it said the panels were bringing in 405 watts on 4 panels lol I had never seen my panels bring in that many watts. the sun was directly overhead. I found some really interesting homemade AC youtube videos where people use peltier blocks and fans in a cooler to make their own air conditioning, I can't wait to make my own system to see how well it would work paired with my window AC on 76 auto-cool, because the whole peltier system I think should only use about 80-100 watts at most which would really save my batteries, my window AC has been averaging closer to 400 watts during the daytime, but I think that once I put in a bunch of 1/2" to 1" thick insulation & neoprene foam padding on the inside and outside of my truck camper, the AC would run at way less watts, thank you for the video on the neoprene sound proofing insulation & the Links to the ones you used. Good examples of the peltier block coolers etc. working on the youtube channel Desertsun02, will be interesting to see if it works

Another thing I would like to run by you. I would think it would be a better idea. Take a window air conditioner and mount it through the floor face up. The van would be much more stealthy and the AC would still work and drain without being seen from the outside.

I have an idea I'd like to run by you. Instead of carrying all that extra weight and taking up space with a bunch of solar panels, why not just set up your battery bank so that you can charge off of Tesla superchargers? In most cases you could charge within an hour and you can even use that charger to run your devices while you're waiting to get charged.

Hello, I have watched many of your videos, and I see a problem. If you edit it, I think it will help a lot to increase the number of views. 1/ the transitions in the videos are quite fast, it's hard for me to keep up. 2/ is that if you hold it by hand and turn it around too quickly, it will shake a lot. I think you are a smart person, your brain is very quick, you process video scenes very well. But if the viewer, like me, has a slow brain, it will be difficult for them to keep up with the fast-moving scenes in your video. Do you know what, I see you as a genius in thought and action, I see you as scientists who look crazy but are very good in many aspects. Of course, few people can understand what geniuses do and what they think. You are creative, have a broad vision and good entertainment methods. I don't mean to criticize anything, I still watch your videos when they appear, but I just find the transitions too many and too fast giving me a headache, so I just wrote a comment to give you feedback like this. Thank you, wish you success with your videos. I think if there are older people, or future generations who understand, they will watch and appreciate your videos, unless :) youtube doesn't exist, but your videos I think will still be there 100 years from now. That's a lot of fun from a crazy creator. :) I really like the scenes where you shoot pictures of the beautiful idol Britney, :) The beach has beautiful things that are filmed in your clips, which would be very interesting.

As time passes, I see how abrupt the transitions can be and I think overtime with practice. The videos will come out smoother, but it’s hard to make those adjustments quickly.

Van life type videos hover around two different categories: How-to/build videos and Day in the life/travel videos. You are in a unique situation in that your van is now built and you are not traveling, seeing the sights and showing pretty views. I think this is your trouble and I don't necessarily have a solution for you because it takes money to travel, but one tweak I thought of is when you do one of these videos be conscious that the viewer probably wants more of a theme as opposed to jumping around to a bunch of different topics spliced together. My knee jerk reaction to this particular video was " okay, we're talking about sound deadening, now. We're under revenue, but I thought this was about a Tesla? What is this video about exactly?" Also, when you go over a part of your van like your CIGS panels, your videos are half day in the life type when you are jumping between topics quickly and half how-to. For a guy like me who is researching CIGS panels your video moves way too quick for me with jump cuts and whatnot to take in much of the technical stuff I came here to learn. If this were my channel I might try some viewer q&a type stuff where someone has a build question and you talk through weighing the pros and cons of different solutions and what worked and what didn't fit you, and maybe this can generate some content/revenue. A whiteboard for calculations, diagraming, illustrations your points and decision-making could help too. This way you don't have to be spending money shooting travel videos. And of course you don't have to rebuild a van. Good luck and incredibly good job with working out. Looking good! 💪

I'm considering an outside cover for our Midea for seasons when not used. I'm wondering if the tan waterproof material covers available on Amazon would be good or if the cover trapping moister might be problematic? Also there is a quarter sized hole in the bottom which may be to let water out - not sure - wonder if I need to cover this with a bug screen - hate to have a wasp hive get created. Or would the screen mesh cover be better. The placement is mostly protected from rain anyway. What do you use or thoughts on the need?

 all I know about the inverter AC is it’s a new type of AC and that’s why it sips power at times but it definitely runs on AC current and you’ll need to buy an inverter to run it off of batteries

Reflective insulation doesn't work if you put regular insulation on top. Reflectix is for radiant heat, so it needs an air gap to function.

Is there a way to plug our solar batteries into the Midea without first converting our direct current to alternating current with an inverter and then feed it to the Midea internal inverter to convert back from alternating 110 current to direct current. Or am I not understanding how to use our solar with the Midea. I do have a window unit and it works great with grid 110, just wish there was a model to more efficiently use solar charged batteries when available.
@NoLimitVanLife
@NoLimitVanLife 3 ай бұрын
I guess what you described is not possible. You’ll need to buy an inverter, but it may be a better option than buying an expensive DC air conditioner because even after converting from DC to AC to run the air conditioner the midea is so efficient it may be efficient as an expensive DC air conditioner. an efficient 1000 W pure sign wave inverter will run the air conditioner and isn’t expensive

@@NoLimitVanLifeThanks for the reply. I'm speculating. Does the Midea really run off DC current (called an inverter air conditioner) and only accept AC current as input? I might be misunderstanding what an inverter air conditioner means. So far, we've been happy with our 12,000 BTU Media that we are using to limp along until the central air in our home gets fixed. I'm just wondering if in some cases, especially if hook up solar panels, might save a few bucks. I have a meter on our Media and on econo and low fan - it seems to do whatever it feels is required -- has quite a range of electric input from 2.5 watts to 260 watts so far with many levels between (all readings on economy and low fan). In fairness, it has not been very hot and today is the first 80 + day. We have an open space home with several rooms closed off and the window unit has so far kept our main area at 72 (by morning) to 74 to 75 by evening with the unit set at 74. Starting last Wednesday afternoon to Monday running continually has cost $1.77 ( at 14 cents / KWH) and is currently using 147 Watts with outside temp at 3:31 PM at 81 degrees and inside temp in the open space living / dining / kitchen at 73.4 degrees. My adjoining room office with the door open is noticeably warmer - but the computers are in there. Our home is well insulated with solar screens on the windows that mostly also have roof eave overhangs. We have solar shades hanging in front of our attached garage doors. Thanks for the video and reply.

Hello, I agree with you. This U-shaped AC is hands down the most efficient and cost-effective option available. Instead of cutting a whole in the door, I think removing the rear window and installing it there would be a better option. What do you think? if you sell the van just remove and replace the window. Perhaps some fabrication and bracing needed? I think a guy on you tube installs window AC units that way. A slide up window replacement would be perfect! I have not seen one though. :( Maybe go with a 48Volt off grid system. 48V wall mount battery and all-in-one inverter. 4000 watts of solar if possible. DC to DC perhaps not possible. Shore power may be tricky with the neutral ground bonding issue. One day we will have the perfect set up, but I agree with the U-shape AC. Installation is the challenge though.
