Doesn’t compare even remotely to the winter of 62/63.. as small kids we didn’t care in Cornwall that winter, we had an extra 2 months off after Christmas. But I remember my parents worrying. No heating due to the power cuts, we were in a modern house that had electric hot air heating… it got so cold… food couldn’t get through (Cornwall was cut off for months) water was frozen in the pipes.. and even the reservoir’s froze. Some of the villages in Cornwall were under 10 ft of snow! And because of our well known country roads being so narrow, they couldn’t get the ploughs down them! The army in the end had to hand dig many of the roads to the villages! Then shops started to run out of things because none of the large delivery lorries could get into Cornwall. It was like something out of Scot of the Antarctic!

@@nic4x4cam92 best new year EVER as a kid lol… 😂 school remained closed for months as the heating was radiators back then.. so of course it was frozen until end of march if memory serves! Though I’m sure if mum and dad were still here they wouldn’t have agreed! 😂

I have drove on roads like that in my life time and never again . I always refused to even start the engine when the snow comes down , like that. Because you could be paying extra insurance for years because of a silly skid. It's cheaper to just stay at home. And if you need to go anywhere, you can use a taxi. But there again I live in the town where roads are gritted. Only the side roads are like this " well not as bad .🇬🇧

The snowfalls during the UK winter of late 1962 and early 1963 was a record in recent memory for many people never to be forgotten. It is featured in a KZfaq video viewed recently -> kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7uJadx7usjXp3k.html. I'm also read articles and comments p where a similar extreme event happened during the winter of form January to March in 1947.

That is a lot of snow, but it could be misleading to me. I don't really see a lot of ditches or snow fencing. Low and unprotected roads can drift up quickly.

Don't make me laugh. In North Yorkshire the snow gets so deep under the car the tyres can't get traction. What about ice under the snow also ? Of course studded tyres are the answer to that, but who has them.

Those who can remember 1963 in Devon can say this is a mild fall of snow. They had to use helicopters to transport food and fuel to out lying hamlets, as many were cut off for more than two weeks. There was not the machinery then to clear the roads. They even had the army digging out some lanes by hand.

Love this. 4x4 + winter tyres is the only way - Quattro alone wouldn't be safe. I have a Jimny and fit winter tyres for snow and ice. Used to have an Allroad and that was great but thirsty.❄👍

The snow in this video was no worse than back in the 80's. The village I grew up in, every now and then was cut off for a couple of days. The kids in the village longed for this each winter, as it meant no school and a lot of sledging.

Beginning of March 2018 - "Beast from the East". In South Wales on A44 road. Driving west towards Rhayader, but as you can see from the video I didn¨t make it there that day. The road was blocked by snow a bit after The Fforest Inn (you can find that on Google Maps). In the video I drive past The Fforest Inn (left side of the road) at 1:50 where lorries and other cars are stopped, and then at 13:40 when I drive back (right side of the road)
