The music college managed to get ALL FOUR music questions wrong, which is pretty hard to do.

Thompson surely knew the answer to the question about two U. S. states ending in a silent “s.” If Hopkins doesn’t ring in first and miss it, she probably wins that starter and they win the match.

I think this was one of the best possible series of UC. Real competition, real guts and real suffering. An extremely satisfying run. Having just finished watching, I plan to rewatch all of it.

Incorrect answer by Paxman at 24:00. He says Kennedy (1917-1963). The correct answer is Reagan (1911-2004).
@thomasbrassingtonАй бұрын
The question is asking for the first president (who was born in the 20th Century), not the first born (of those who became president), so Kennedy is correct.
@MrRubrickАй бұрын
@@thomasbrassington The first president born in the 20th century, regardless of when he became President, is still Reagan.
@thomasbrassingtonАй бұрын
Hi. Have checked again, and still think paxman is right. “first us president to have been born in the 20th century”, as opposed to “the first us president in the 20thcentury to have been born. (in the 20th century)”. The question asks for the first president, not the first born. Kennedy as the 35th bests Reagan as the 40th.
@MrRubrickАй бұрын
@@thomasbrassington this is incredible. Your logic is flawed. Whichever way you answer your two questions the answer is STILL Reagan. But you somehow think it’s Kennedy. Reagan was a President. Kennedy was President first but Reagan was still a President. The first President to be born in the 20th century is STILL Reagan. It wasn’t Kennedy until Reagan. It was Reagan. He was born six years earlier. Reagan was first. Paxman was wrong and so are you. End of story. Stop replying to me with your opinions because that’s all they are.

Both teams so likeable, one was sorry for the loser rather than pleased for the winner, no matter who it've had been.

Well done to go from 0 almost up to the competing team's score so fast. Average age 19 and 20 and they know so much. What did I know at that tender age? It would perhaps be interesting to know what school they came from.

New College is always weak on literature.
@castelodeossos3947 Жыл бұрын
Whenever I'm surprised that the young participants don't know, for example, that it was Ishmael who was sole survivor in Moby Dick, I remind myself that they're all children, and what they do know (winners or losers) is far far more than what I knew at that age, and I remain, as always impressed, no matter what the outcome.
@castelodeossos3947 Жыл бұрын
Both teams damned good, but Durham not so good on the arts. Those were the days when there were more literary questions, which meant I could answer far more than the usual 2-3.
@castelodeossos3947 Жыл бұрын
Knew from the start that Lancaster would lose because practically all the work is done by Pinkerton, who along with everyone else on his team knows nothing about any of the arts, who appears not to listen to the contestant on his left (eg Blake, which was correct) and whose contestant on the right never provides any input either good or bad. The other team is strong (Subsaeng knowing his arts), except for their captain, who appears to provide not a single answer herself. Thank you for uploading.

This was a nail-biter. To echo N Stone, I felt badly for Pembroke. They were a team of really outstanding students. I think it was "bad luck" as Mr. Paxman sometimes says; i.e., a lot boils down to the subject areas of the starters and bonuses. On one day, the subjects touched on will be areas your team members are conversant in, on another day not so much.
@danawinsor13802 жыл бұрын
The answer "Strauss," should have required a first name considering there were several composers with that surname: Richard (the correct answer), Franz (Richard's father, a composer in his own right), Johann Strauss Sr., his son Johann Straus Jr. (the "waltz king."), Joseph Strauss (Johann Jr.'s brother), and Eduard Straus (brother to Johann Jr. and Joseph).
