CATO, you are wrong and the 53 million private companies in China will tell you that too. When Shanghai has more coffee shops than New York and London combined, and when US company Starbucks is opening a new outlet in China every nine hours, nearly 3 a day, its an indication that modern China is more different than you think.

He's confused between Capitalism and a Free Market. - A Free Market fuels competition, which is usually price competition, which is good provided you don't sacrifice standards or delivery. - Capitalism is an enabler, whatever it enables, good or bad.

"So we shouldn't become China; China should becomr us if it wants prosperous futurr". What rubbish he is spewing? Let's look at the proper perspectives... 1) Nobody asks you to become like China, least of all the Chinese. They only want you to do more trades but bear in mind they are not forcing you at gunpoints. 2) No doubt China wants to be prosperous. But then which nation doesn't to? But then again do all nations have to be like you western countries in order to be prosperous? Or rather, so they CAN BE prosperous? Dun make me laugh! Please look at your mirror before spewing your RUBBISH!

I have three key points on this: 1). Trade with China 2024 more often means: West import from China, but China doesnt import from West = Big trade surplus for China. 2). Apple and other big international companies more and more are exiting China for manufacturing in other neighborhood countries like India/Vietnam/etc so they dont ”need” to rely on China for cheaper manufacturing as much in 2024 as they did in the years before. 3). And how can the other states not be protectionst when China clearly are planing by unfair trade rules as with artifical devaluing their currency and subsidizing their industries to gain a greater advantage over their international competitors?

1. there's nothing that stops other nations from doing the same. chip act, ira, oil subsidies, tax incentives, auto & banks bail outs...same things? 2. China invested heavily in the last 25 years to secure resources supply chain while others only secure the next quarterly earnings report. is this cheating ? 3. big numbers of exports are actually foreign firms that make products in China then ship them out. apple? GM? VW? BMW? BOSCH?....huge long list

He is wrong at least two: decline of population is not an issue in China. There is plenty of unemployment right now. Second, liberation of TW is a sovereignty issue, not an issue just for the CPC. Whoever is in power, whatever political ideology the government has, it has to do one day, because this is the will of 1.4 billion Chinese people living all over the world.
@Joe_Kool
@Joe_Kool 22 сағат бұрын
Ugh, for one, the depopulation of China is a significant problem for China! It would be for any country. If you knew anything about the demographic growth information of a population, you would be a little more concerned: a large elderly population who can't work also can't contribute to GDP or societal welfare benefits; only a healthy working-age population can do that. Two, Taiwan is a sovereign state: only a sovereign state should be able to say what it does and does not want for its population. Or do you also believe that Taiwan should have the same right to invade mainland China and impose its own will on its population?

@@Joe_Kool it will take a long time time before China runs out of people and by then the world may look quite different, it’s a worry but at least 50 years down the road. Taiwan is not recognized as a sovereign state by the vast majority of the international community. The key issue is peaceful reunification, which is also what the PRC wants. What the US wants is using Taiwan as a pawn to instigate a war with the PRC.

Steps that countries take to counteract other countries' mercantilist schemes are often efficient and pro-market. Imagine there are only two countries in the world operating under free market conditions, country A and B. One day country B artificially lowers the value of its currency in order to increase its exports to and decrease its imports from country A. If country A responds by artificially lowering the value of its currency to restore the relative value of its currency to where it was prior to country B's manipulation, then country A has restored the market to its free market conditions.

My only issue with Congress handling the quantity of immigrants into the United States is that Congress can be as reactionary and buy into the furor and rhetoric of reactionaries within the populace which counter to preponderance of available economic data. The issue isn't the dichotomy of "immigrant bad" and "white naturalized American good" or vice versa.. Yet, that has been the trend in electoral politics of the most recent decades. The situation is far more nuanced than that, but Congress hasn't been receptive to nuanced issues.
