@16:15 Michigan alumnus living in Tokyo here (although I didn't go to the law school). You being a New Yorker, I think Michigan would be a good fit, both before and after, if you decide to return to home. New York is the state with the fourth most Michigan alumni living there. That would give you many networking opportunities through the alumni association. Congratulations on getting accepted and... Go Blue! 💛💙

I think this video is great. It really takes repeated failures to focus the mind, become more determined, and succeed like no other.

Nadia congratulations! You did it! Our son is headed to Michigan Law school next week as well! Look out for him, he’s a 6’2” young man, who like you, also worked for a few years after graduating from college. I am confident you will meet him. He’s will be the observant, mature young man, who will be listening intently and only speaking when necessary. He’s a very interesting person. Born on Okinawa, Japan, and grew up on Marine Corps bases

I started by giving myself a few extra minutes while doing practice sections, then lowered that amount by one minute every other section. I wouldn’t do this during actual practice tests, but doing it with the sections helped me a lot!

An acquaintance, who is a non-traditional student, (former classmate at a community college) applied to several law schools with a 3.2 GPA and an LSAT of 156. She was accepted at University of Michigan and waitlisted at Stanford. She is starting law school at Michingan this year.

Hello Nadia! And CONGRATULATIONS!!! You will be an extremely successful lawyer, and your story popped into my recommended videos, as I graduated from Georgetown Law in 2006. I forgot about the phone calls with acceptances, including wondering if they were jokes played on me by my friends. My first shot at the LSAT, and I wound up with a very low score. With practice and familiarity, I boosted it significantly. I, like you, did not believe for a second that I couldn't figure it out. Wait, that's a double-negative. Like you, I knew I could do it! The most remarkable thing about your journey is your wisdom in not "accepting" a perceived reality, not settling, and pushing through, not knowing the outcome. (A triple negative!). These types of journeys are filled with pain, discouragement, self-reflection, and then, with perseverance, extreme lifetime satisfaction and great outcomes. During this time, with a 166, you could have "settled" with any number of lower-ranked schools, and been on your way. In doing so, you know that "settling" means not getting what you really wanted. Waiting for three years is tremendous resilience. Taking the LSAT again and boosting your score to 172 was a bold (and correct) move. Like a surfer, you waited for the right wave. You defeated the naysayers, stayed on course, and now look where you are! I am so very proud of you! The LSAT has nothing to do with the practice of law. Neither does law school. I was profiled in a law review articles about my criticisms of legal education. The "law professor" wrote a stinging rebuke about me. I profiled his BS article, hoping it would help people actually read it. Like you, I refused to settle. I had to work around a lot of things to go to law school much later in life. I refused to listen to the dream killers, got into G-town and other fine schools, and never looked back. I remember the rejections I received and being waitlisted from schools. The acceptances were not from the schools I wanted, so I waited it out. The school you go to matters A LOT. Where I went had a huge effect on my career. UM is absolutely a gem! My advice for law school is this: treat it like a job. Go to class, stay in the front, do the readings, and think elements to each claim. All the best. You really deserve it. Love your energy and your doggie! Interestingly, my best grades came in law school. The pressure during finals is that everyone will know the material. In my estates class, I got a "B" despite scoring a 95. The only A's were perfect scores. Everyone around you is super smart. So, do practice exams under timed pressure. They will give you a lot to do for three hours. The best lawyers are those who can do what you did. You can't teach it. The LSAT was nothing more than a useless barrier, and you broke through. Enjoy your three years! Finally, the irony in rejecting schools that rejected you brought back so many memories to me. During exams - use every fact. Apply those facts. Reason out those facts. Then come to a conclusion. Appellate decisions can be 5-4, meaning there's no sure answer. Negligence has four elements. Remember that. Fraud has five. Some facts do not apply, but explain why. Longer isn't better. Concise wins the day. Get to know the profs. They'll also tell you what matters. I threw away my television. Limit the distraction from KZfaq. Buy your supplies now before school starts. Load up on pens, toner, spare printer, etc. I never used the school's printers. I bought high-end stuff and brought it with me. Congrats again!
