Excellent work, but don't you find that figures painted in a zenithal style tend to stand out when put in dioramas or next to vehicles that aren't painted in the same style?

Thank you, yes you are right re the lighting painting style. It is a balance. I think it is the most effective and natural method for figure painting but is often ignored when painting vehicles. It is something modellers often don't allow for when shading their models thus making the subject flat. 🤔

Thanks for the kind comments. Slave 1 is something I have always wanted a decent model of - now I have that and I'm working through my list of other sci-fi favourites. My day job is runnning Staples and Vine - mainly designing, casting and producing scale models - all aspects. 🙂

The graphics for the underside I designed in Corel Draw and then cut out from a sheet of vinyl with a Silhouette Portrait 4 cutter. Glad you like them. 🙂

Google Draw is a great piece of free software for basic decal design. For multi layer artwork for screen printing it may be a struggle. 🤔

It is great to watch work at progress. Youre modeller skills are superb. About youre question: wich one we like more APC or Dropship? my answer would be... Both. You just can't have one without the other. Those 2 ,are for me, the best of James Camerons designs... if somoene didn't knew it by now... yes APC and Dropship were designed by Cameron himslelf. He made drawings of APC and with dropship, as he say himself, he had the problem to grasp Dropship shapes with many scetches attempts, so he just went to modellershop in the studio and scratchbuild it...

ALIENS are the one of few movies that shaped my estheticks about futuristic mechadesign - saw it probably 7 times at cinema as a teenager. And I have to admitt that this is one brilliant model with awsome engenireeng of magnet usage but... ... but you forgot about one thing to be screen acurate. The suspention hight. Otherwise it's great... I wish there was so acurate model in 1/144 scale... ...best regards (--_+)

Thanks, glad you like the build. I'm currently painting the 1/24. Lighting was a hold up and pinning down the colour was tricky but I think I've sorted that now. Also building up the 1/16 RC version (chassis complete, body assembled, everything printed). The files should be available before Romulus. 🙂

Really enjoyed this tutorial, and found it extremely useful. One question: do you know of a comparable product here in the U.S. that performs as well as the Hycote Spray Clear Lacquer you suggest in the video?

That's great I'm glad you found the video useful. I think Rustoleum / Krylon may be an equivalent in the U.S. but I would recommend carrying out a test before you commit. Let me know how you get on. 🙂

Amazing project! I'm looking forward to purchasing the files for a build of my own! Is it possible to mold the tires from the resin negatives? There are moldable plastics with a black/grey hue that may serve you well. I believe it's called thermoplast. Can't wait for the final product, sir!! Keep up the great work!

I am thinking of trying this out, is there a reason to have vents coming of the mold that do not lead outside of the mold to allow air to escape??

The vents that do not lead to the edge of the mould are often in 'captive' regions of the mould due to the nature of the part and metal feeds. To vent air from them I drill through the mould and run a vent across the back surface to the edge of the mould. Hope this makes sense.

It is an idea but print quality, material cost, and print failure rate make moulding and casting a far better option.... Have you ever tried to get a rough rubber surface smooth?

@@StaplesandVine I've printed plenty of wheels in flexible (rubberised) resin that needed no more cleanup than any other resin print. Printing quality isn't an issue, material costs aren't much more than abs-like resins.

For the tyres on my 1/6th scale scout car I used polyurethane rubber with a shore 30 harness I made a silicone mould for them but a 3d printed mould would work as well

I would recommend getting the tyres mould and cast, there are a lot of rubberised polyurethanes that could work perfectly!

Massive thanks for the offer of help. I'm thinking of 'Polytek Poly PT Flex 85' with black pigment. It is their firmest which I think will work well for the 1/16 tyres.
