My dad would have loved this. Growing up we had a small layout and ran HO scale trains. It was nothing like this, but we had fun. My favorite engine was a steamer that you could put a smoke tablet in and it looked like real smoke. And running along side the house i grew up in was the Illinois Central Gulf line. It was in Monee Illinois. I miss hearing and seeing the trains go by. Both frieght and Amtrack.

I’m glad this video brought back memories of your dad and your childhood. My dad was a railroader which is why I enjoy trains. He’s gone now but I think he’d have liked it. Thanks for riding along and please come back for another trip soon😊👍👍👍

That many turnouts (points/junctions/switches etc) all combine to provide a multiplicity of routes around the layout. There had to be some serious planning done. When your on-screen message of an NS train passing, I thought you had thrown in some sound effects. Silly me. Your garden fence has a bit of a way to go to be as interesting as Distant Signal's.

Just a quick question. What guage and scale would a train need to be for it be at the correct scale of a Kenner Star wars action figure? 1:18.4 out of curiosity. 10cm tall.
@cbt1960
@cbt1960 17 күн бұрын
Not exactly sure but this railroad is 1:20.3 scale so not quite large enough but close. 1:20.3 is the largest scale available for model trains.

Hahaha, believe it or not my ancestors are from Scotland. Both the Macleod and Keahey Clans. I’ve never been but a trip over there is on our bucket list of places to visit now that we’re retired. I definitely agree with you about the whistles over there being much better versus the extremely loud horns over here. We’ve been to parts of Europe and the whistles on the trains are much more pleasant. But honestly over here in the U.S. even a very loud horn, lights, bells and gates won’t stop some folks from crossing over the tracks. Unfortunately many times they don’t make it.
@ThomasMuirAudionaut

@@cbt1960 Oh? you must do the West Highland trip to Fort William and Mallaig by train if you ever make it over.. it's not quite the same as back when we had class 37 locomotive hauled services, but it's still a treat for railfans even if you if you can't get booked on a preservation society train like the 'jacobite' _ and have to plump for one of those 156 DMU's which look like a bus.. Especially if railway engineering floats your boat, some of our earthworks and bridges are very impressive feats for a bunch of worthies and cart horses from 1899 (etc) to have achieved.... it was also voted Europe's 3rd most scenic railway route, which... when you consider we're up against the Alpine and Welsh Narrow Gauge railways, is quite the badge of honour. I wasn't really saying our horns are better.. lol.. actually they're a bit more annoying sometimes because they just suddenly blast it.. whereas your guys are beeping and clanging for a half mile before the engine rumble can be heard.. ;)
