Very glad you made this video. I have to ask, do you know a part number for the retaining spring for the dual pulley bracket to tension handle? Ive tried cross referencing sizes on Amazon l. No luck Thanks

See if this works for you. The Ground drive system takes two springs PN: 149412 and PN: 176624 both are called spring Drive. The mower deck also takes two springs, PN: 179479 Primary spring drive and PN: 174371 Secondary spring drive. Please note, these numbers are referenced from Craftsman's owner's manual for model No. 917.276320. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Can anyone answer- The bolt loosened below the 2-pulley bracket to allow him to remove the drive belt. Should that bolt/nut actually not be 100% tight, to allow the 2-pulley bracket to float and sel-adjust for temperature, belt wear, load, etc. allowing the tension spring and engagement controls to function?

@albertoguerrero5362

Hello John, good to here from you. Keep in mind that these are just approximate values and will vary from machine to machine. Per the millermatic caliculator recomendations for .030 wire and 16 ga. sheetmetal it is recommended as follows: 250-340 IPM (wire speed) and 17-18 V ( 75/25 mix gas). This is just a starting point and you will have to adjust from there as necessary. I hope this helps. Also you may wnt to verify your miller is set at the Low Voltage setting as well (inside the panel). The outside tap on mine is #4, may be different on yours.

Alberto I finally found a nice Miller Vintage welder. It was fairly priced but had no gas cylinder or gas gauges. I drove all over creation go get it and bring it home. I drove 1900 miles in three days to get this beast.. I've got a starting out question for you. The copper spool of non-flux has rust all over it. It's a very large spool, that I don't want to throw out the spool of 0.35" wire but, if it's got rust on the wire, do I just peal back the to clean wire or throw it away and get myself a fresh spool of welding wire? Thanks in advance for your answer! I do know I've got to take it apart and vacuum out the internals as it's been stored in farm shed where the outside climate is very damp. This dampness caused the welding wire to go rusty on the outside..

Hello John McCarthy, The Millermatic Vintage is a fantastic machine and very serviceable (but I don't see that happening, this is a well-built USA machine). I purchased mine about 11 years ago as a novice as well, and I have never regretted the purchase. Mine actually came with the Bernard gun you see in the video, and consumables are readily available. Parts (if needed) like the Drive Rolls for example, reference www.millerserviceparts.com as one of several sources out there. Service (If ever needed), weldmart.com services these older machines. Is it Heavy (225lbs approximately)? Yes. However, it's a gentle giant and rolls beautifully. Is it a good welder to start with? I don't see why not I did, and I have no regrets. As you become familiar with the type of machine, you will appreciate its value. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Best Regards, Alberto

@@albertoguerrero5362 I was watching this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fK2YhtJpl7O0aYk.html & I was wondering if your Miller Vintage could do full on Aluminum welding without a spool gun? I mean buy a new gun equip it with a graphene feeder tube and be able to directly weld (without a spool gun) on your machine? The Hobart 140 welder really was at it limits doing the aluminum welding in the video link above so, even from watching that video I can see immediately I need a welder than will need a 240 volt supply which suggests the Miller Vintage class of machine. There's an old carpenter saying of "Measure three times cut the wood once," which comes to mind. I've seen a Miller Vintage for sale but it's in the mid-west (lots of cost on shipping) but I'm sure another Miller Vintage will come up soon.
