Congratulations!!! You made it and I am sure this book will help many artists. I am looking forward to holding my copy in my hands on friday! You are such an inspiration! Regarding the difference between audience and people what came to my mind was: audience just listens and feels somehow abstract to me - with PEOPLE you can INTERACT and that is a big difference - it is open to a mutual (viceversa) relationship and this is so important to really CONNECT. Thank you so much for everything you share! Your motivational voice always lights up my day!

I have struggled with this for a long time because my work mostly has ‘religious’ themes. And I’ve realized that even though I’m making my work based off themes based in the Judeo-Christian-Arabic-Greek-Slavic traditions, I don’t want that to be my only audience. I want to make work that is not just useful in describing or illustrating an ideology. I want my work to be Human and to meet people on an emotional level. I want to be ok with making the things I want to see and that come from inside of me AND to not have that limited by its theme into a ‘category’ of limited understanding.

I have always been confused by niching as some ppl mean just Atlantic fish and others mean just watercolour and yet others mean the stuff you like painting in any medium! Very confusing indeed

I’ve been through the same experiences with art, studying for 8 years and then having young babies as a sole parent… not being able to do any artwork. My drawings are just nothing like the quality of the past. Also how life can be difficult and missing the art world. You are amazing and I admire you. Thank you for all the help you have given me through your videos. ❤

Great advice Michelle, many thanks for this. Sadly, I've learned the hard way, mostly through being too trusting and taking people on their word, doing work in good faith. I have taken on commissions without getting a deposit first, I have done illustration work and never been paid - sometimes weeks of work! I don't like having to be so guarded, but it's better to be like that than feeling angry with yourself at a later point.

I'm dealing with two clients for one project, which has become an absolute nightmare. It's a mother-daughter duo, and I had no idea I would be working with both of them. The communication is overwhelming, and I've already spent a lot of time working on images and costs for materials. I'm over my schedule due to constant edits, and they have unrealistic expectations. They are never happy or grateful. I feel like I will have to end the contract. I want to give them their deposit and walk away, but I have already spent a lot on printing and materials. What would you? Take the deposit or give it all back?

Ah, I am so sad to hear you are going through this - this is a great area of opportunity, though, as it means you need to put terms in place and boundaries going forward - so you are clear with the client before you start work that you only do 3 revisions for example. Then you can always refer back to the terms if they break them, in a kind way :) The refund is your call; do what feels right, but if you haven't been clear with how you work, I would be inclined to refund the whole amount and use this as an experience to make changes going forward. I feel you as this is a tricky situation that creates an emotional drain as well as time.

@@michellelloyd9961 Yes, so it's through an artist's platform, so it's a little difficult and I haven't set those terms in place. It's unbelievable they are trying to micromanage me, which does not work for me. I am remaining professional and sticking to a schedule which they are trying to stretch out. I will remain with the deadline, but I'm unsure how I can implement this if they haven't signed a contract. If the reasons for the delay are because of them, how do I go forward without walking away? Tips would be helpful

I think the technical side of handling a website or something like that, is my main concern. I am an older artist...I have great ideas though for the content! These type of things are still quite new here in South Africa...

I had imposter syndrome so bad for the last 30 years and since I discovered Michelle a couple of years ago its almost diminished ,its a work in progress but I’m getting closer , now at 50 years old I’m reframing every negative self doubt that sneaks in , thanks to Michelle 😅

I discovered you last year during mental health issues nearly lost my daughter, lost my job ,my home, though I was working to support my art practice but was unable to afford the course, after the initial 7 keys. The course gave me so much at a difficult time which is still moving forward.
