I really enjoy watching your channel. I am 56 now , lol. But when I attended HS many moons ago we had a jewelry making studio where I learned how to set stones, solder , enamel etc This is where my love for jewelry making and designing began! Then went on to floral design, back to jewelry design using seed beads and wire work, anyway my real love is what you do but I forgot how to do it all. Do you teach online?

Its all about heat and volume - so a larger torch might work. It depends on what you're soldering to what. I can't really say without a lot more info. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Mozez - I don't know anything about the European hoses, etc. so I can't answer that but my guess would be they are not compatible. The disposable bottles just have an off/om valve and cannot be used with tanks and vis-versa. Hope this helps.

Hi Jeff! I see you used 24g, isn't it a bit thin? What would be the thickest you would suggest that we can use with this tool? Thanks!
@artistjefffulkerson43273 жыл бұрын
24 gauge works well because it's easier to form & once you put in the compound curve, even the copper becomes incredibly strong g.
@johnmimist3 жыл бұрын
Artist Jeff Fulkerson hi Jeff, but as far as if someone wants a thicker look, how thick can the metal be with your tool?

Artist Jeff Fulkerson Can you crank it down more to create a bigger flange on the bangle? Or will it tend to split the metal quickly? That can actually be a desirable effect, when done intentionally - and is something I do actually want to do. I can’t afford the giant dapping tools to do it with, though, nor do I have the strength, plus I live in an apartment, so noise is a huge issue. I assume you can also use the tool to make rings, obviously as long as they are bigger than the bolt?
@artistjefffulkerson43273 жыл бұрын
@@wendyannh You can't use the disks to make rings as they are too big. You can crank down the disks until they touch each other. How much flare you get will depend on how wide and how large a bangle you make. typically, the metal only splits at the solder joint and its pretty uncontrollable.
@wendyannh3 жыл бұрын
Artist Jeff Fulkerson Thanks for the info! Any chance you will come out with a similar setup for rings? I should be more able to do those with dapping punches, but the noise would still be an issue. I’m always looking for ways around that!

Hi Jeff I just took your class last Saturday and I have a couple questions, if you could email me that would be so helpful, [email protected]
Hi Jeff! I bought this tool from Halstead a few weeks ago but I somehow managed to get it stuck, and not can’t get the nut to move. Any advice you can offer? Thanks!!
@artistjefffulkerson43275 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you might have stripped the bolt/nut threads. First, to un-stick, you hopefully take a big wrench and a lot of elbow grease and loosen it. Second, if you can't do that, you may have to cut the bolt off. I had a student do this in a class once and all I could do was cut it off. The REAL question is why? Why did this happen. Two theories: You may have worn out the bolt and used it one too many times or you may have tightened it all the way down to where the two disks hit each other and kept trying to tighten to get a little more bend in your bangle. The first problem is easy: when the bolt starts to throw off little bits of metal, buy a new one. They're only about $1. The second problem just takes a little 'feel'. You should never have to exert tremendous pressure turning the nut. When it gets tight, that tells you that's as far as you can go, so stop! Hope this helps. Let me know.

What brand is the littly torch
@patrickfarley80365 жыл бұрын
One VERY IMPORTANT point you failed to say about acetylene is it must be used in an upright position and if for any reason the tank was in a horizontal position like if transporting in a car, IT MUST be placed standing upright for a prescribed length of time! This is so the acetone has an opportunity to get back through the porous element inside the tank EVEN BEFORE the regulator is attached!!! The length of time it takes to settle before usage is determined by the size of the tank in question. ASK the agent at the gas supply store how long to wait for your particular tank. Otherwise they may not offer that info assuming you know what you are doing!!! After all, the end user is ultimately responsible for any damage, injury, or death!
