Interesting. The older men are aghast at the way Snow is wrecking the ‘institution of the Nights Watch’ while unwilling to do anything regarding the advancing army of the dead or protecting the realms of men(everyone) from them. if realms of men are destroyed from a game of thrones then there is no way of defending against the army, if the wildlings are lost then it is addition to their army. Saving them won’t discount for their uncouth behaviour such as that of the giant attacking. Jon is in the right but his circumstances are so demanding, death seemed too kind for his burdens.

this eleven minute segment alone has so many iconic, badass, funny, and thoughtful lines in it alone. George RR Martin is a genius. To add to the list of quotes people are posting in the comments though, I think Roy's reading of 'My father is dead' ... 'and may the father judge him justly' is absolutely hilarious and perfectly captures the exchange between Jamie and Brynden. Iconic scene

This is my favorite chapter from A Clash of Kings. It was very late in the book and Jaime never even appeared throughout all the 800s pages but he was often talked about by other characters. It was so exciting to finally get to read a dialogue with him and Catelyn, and a perfect kick off to start his amazing arc in A Storm of Swords.

Just looking at it again... god, it's just so horrible. Everything about it... it really is just hard to get through. No wonder GRRM found it such a difficult thing to write. And the ending, where she thinks of what she's lost and goes mad before getting killed... easily one of the most devastating things I've ever read.
