A cobra maneuver is when your aircraft reaches 90° of angle of attack. F-14 was never capable of pulling such AOA. Maybe F/A-18, and definitely all soviet modern fighters, but not F-14. An F-14 could somewhat do a Herbst maneuver, due to its engine size, but it was never supermaneuverable. Hey, USA, if you want a good supermaneuverable fighter platform for mass production, maybe get a large wing area and overall a very aerodynamic airframe? The soviets knew what they were doing when designing their Flankers.

I don't know why people are so shocked that F4's are depicted as Migs. It's not like the producers had just any airforce at their disposal. In fact, the US airforce didn't want any part of this movie (gee I wonder why 😆). The producers had to collaborate with the Israeli airforce and I'm sure the options given to them for plane footage were limited. It was either use a known western aircraft as a Mig or not do the movie. Which, considering this movie's quality, may have been a better idea 😋

They did Doug dirty in the sequel. I love Louis Gossit Jr Academy Award winner, but Doug being the Ace in this movie would have been the better story!

Kinda interesting how Shin can pull all those tight maneuvers in a Tiger II, presumably while on full internal fuel and with full drop tanks as well. Poor thing would've practically fallen apart if he tried that irl... Still, it's a damn good scene. Would've been kinda interesting if it ended with Shin getting shot down, and I feel like it would've better fit the tone of this adaptation.
