I'm fairly surprised that these UVs of yours didn't have any nasty seams popping up due to aliasing at the curved edges. How did you accomplish that one? Whenever I explort my meshes this way, I often end up with ugly seams in the mesh maps

Great tutorial, I used to hand paint my stylized textures in photoshop back in the day and was wondering how I could use Substance to speed up the process. And also make it accessible to a team who didn't cut there teeth hand painting textures in Phototshop (the good old days). This is perfect. Thanks!

I never said it was a hand painted tutorial - and the sculpt is done by hand and does a lot of the work, this was just a short tutorial for making quick textures pretty quickly. I will be making a purely hand painted tutorial soon!

I have a - perhaps stupid - question. I used Substance and 3D Coat like 10 years ago and recently decided to finally pay for Substance and I was wondering... Well, which software do you prefer when it comes to hand painting?
@rosiejarvisart5 ай бұрын
not stupid at all! I personally like 3DCoat more for handpainting and use Substance more when I am baking and creating PBR textures. Just a personal preference, I know a lot of people who use substance painter for handpainting
@empty-voiid5 ай бұрын
@@rosiejarvisart 3DCoat does look so nice to use for some hand painting, so I guess I understand why you prefer it! Maybe one day I'll get it 😂 Anyway, thanks!

Amazing! did you create the base model through modeling and then copy it into sculpting to make the details, or did you start by sculpting the high poly version and then retopologise it to get the low poly version? Thanks!
@rosiejarvisart2 ай бұрын
Thanks! I created the base in Zbrush using Zpheres and created adaptive skin, sculpted the big details into that then took it into Maya to retopologize and UV and make general tweaks, then took it back into Zbrush to create the sculpt at the start of the video I used for baking in Substance Painter. I think I will do a sculpting tutorial soon and talk about the entire asset pipeline.

Great video! Can't believe I never used the "Gradient Curve" filter before. Thanks for highlighting that one! One tip (you probably already know this one): If you alt click any of the channels like Color, Roughness, Normal etc. you disable all channels besides the one you clicked. Little bit of a time saver.

I believe that you can use the ao generator to get the dark brown colour into the cracks that you paint at 3:24 and then you can use a mask on top of it to help break it up. Nice tutorial, good luck and god bless :)
