That's awesome you came a cross a vert ramp! I much prefer skating the ramps to bowls like this one as it's much easier to manage and maintain consistent speed for me. It's a lot of fun though, feels like starting again as a complete beginner, but I'm addicted to it haha. Took a decent slam a couple days ago and banged up my knee but hopefully I'm not out for too long. Keep me updated on your vert progress! We got this!
@robbeaton217827 күн бұрын
@@GrawrD The unusual thing is that NJ really doesn’t have any vert at all - even our bowls cap out at 7’ due to construction codes so it usually requires a substantial road trip to seek out vert. Fingers crossed. And sorry to hear about the slam, I guess it’s the price of admission for a sweet backside air

@@robbeaton2178 That's so funny! I feel like in California every bowl is minimum 10 ft these days. Makes it a little intimidating to skate. Looking forward to some vert updates... Yeah, dude! The thing that helped me was acting like I was doing a regular ollie over the board, but shifting my weight to my front foot and pivoting the board around. Yeah man! This series has inspired me to start my own Vert JourneyTM this week. My local doesn't have anything this big so I'm gonna have to make do with a 7 footer and find an excuse to drive the 2hrs back to the only big bowl in the state haha
@GrawrDАй бұрын
Heck yeah, dude!!! I can relate to the long drive as the vert ramp I've been practicing on is about an hour and a half away (without SoCal traffic), but luckily this bowl is only about 30 mins away. It's super fun and humbling skating vert and feels like learning skating all over again but I'm hooked. I think 7ft is definitely big enough to get some solid practice, especially on BS Ollies. If you're like me, you'll start making excuses to make that two hour drive more than you'd like to haha. Keep me posted on your progress!
@thisgoestoelevenАй бұрын
@@GrawrD Will do! I've seen your stuff on IG and r/oldskaters, I post there as well. It's nice to know even SoCal folks have to drive to ramps lol. @PerryEarlАй бұрын
I like watching this progress, by the way. Keep it up!
@PerryEarlАй бұрын
It might just be the camera angle, but to me... it looks like in an effort to keep your weight shifted away from your toes, you are not turning your upper body all the way. Your legs are completing the rotation, but your upper body is only making it about 3/4 the way around, and when you are grabbing the nose, that is keeping you from landing smoothly because your legs are making the turn but your board is being delayed by your upper body.
@GrawrDАй бұрын
First off, you have an incredible eye because that's exactly what I'm doing haha. Especially on vert, I've had trouble with being too far over my toes so, when I pop, I fly forward. I've been watching the Mitchie Brusco BS Air videos and it seems better to under rotate than over rotate so I've been toying around with that on kickturns to see if it helps at all with airs. I'm trying to figure out the timing for the pop/grab but I haven't got it yet.

This is one I can do pretty comfortably on the mellow transition at my local skate park, but I feel the same way about trying it on my backyard ramp that is 3 ft and fairly tight transition. I do find that having relatively fresh grip tape and shoes helps me bring the board around. I need to spend some time to get it down on non-trivial transition. And thanks for the videos. I know life is busy, but I appreciate them whenever they come. And I think I like them without background music better.

I know the feeling, 30 to 45 minutes to get comfortable, 60 minutes till your legs are toast 😂 With the slashers, I find when you are really reaching for them (feet above your body almost) even if the heel wheel goes over the trucks don't touch so you don't get that satisfying sound. Gotta have a bit more pressure on the heels like Mitchie keeps telling us. And yep I can't figure out the powerslides either!
@GrawrDАй бұрын
That 15 mins feels great though! Haha. Makes sense about the slash grinds - it was definitely the tries that I was actively going for the coping that I got the sound and I think my mini ramp pivot muscle memory pressed my heel down. It’s addicting though, can’t wait to get back out there!
