How does spiritual flourishing fit into this assessment? See spirituality in education as described by your.Dr. Lisa Miller's work on the awakened brain?
@DevereuxCRC
@DevereuxCRC Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question about how spiritual flourishing fits into the DECA. The three core protective factors measured by the DECA include attachment/relationships, self-regulation and initiative. These three “within-child” protective factors are well established in the research literature as essential areas to help children overcome challenges and bounce back from adversity. Embedded within these three areas are behaviors related to having a sense of hope (i.e., optimistic about the future); belonging (i.e., seem happy to see parent/guard; show affection for familiar adults); and meaning making (i.e., makes decisions for himself; show an interest in learning new things). These concepts of hope, belonging, and meaning-making are critical elements of both child resilience and child spirituality. At the Devereux Center for Resilient Children, the focus of our work is to look at these concepts through a resilience lens. For those adults who support children’s spirituality, we appreciate how these same concepts should be viewed as critical elements of spiritual growth.

When my daughter was in elementary school - a teacher took the time out of his day to call myself and my daughter afterschool to say what a wonderful student she is and sent a note home at the end of the year to let me know what a kind and caring student my child is and how that really made his job worth it all. That stood out in my mind for years, she is of course now 20 years old and someone did that for my child which in return changed me as a person when it came to my students. I am thankful for this video as it is a huge reminder of why we should always take the time. Thank you!

Hello! I'm just wondering if you could add audio narration to this video to be more inclusive. Text embedded in the video may be inaccessible for those with English as a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) language, or those with visual impairment. With an audio narration, those with video impairment could listen to what is being said, and those who cannot understand the English well could choose auto-captioning in their own language. Our organization emphasizes inclusive practice, and I would like to be able to share this video to our social media once those accessibility features are in place. Thanks!

Apologies, as our technology capabilities are limited. Are you saying closed captions (even just in English) would be helpful, even though there is no speech audio in this video?
@gritprogram
@gritprogram Жыл бұрын
@@DevereuxCRC Captions can help English Language Learners, but only if there is audio narration in the video. KZfaq can auto-caption in different languages, but it can only do that based on the audio it hears. This video has none. For those with visual impairments, I captioning may not provide any benefit, as screen-readers don't read captions. While you provide the link to a blog post that would support screen-readers, many may prefer to hear it aurally. Thus, adding audio narration will support those with visual impairments, because they can hear the content of the video; it will support English Language Learners because KZfaq will be able to generate subtitles (captioning). Hope that helps!
