Maybe this question would make an industrial manufacturing company squirm, but I would like to know what is your environmental impact, and how does Sierra Circuits handle chemical waste and overall recycling and/or disposal of unrecyclable materials? Thank you for these informative videos.

We might squirm, but only because we're so excited to talk about the importance of considering environmental impact! You'll be happy to know that one of the measures we've taken is to implement an innovative program to both reduce required water and recycle wastewater after primary treatment through several steps, including ion exchange, secondary microfiltration, electrowinning, ozonationand reverse osmosis. We've even won a Silicon Valley Water Conservation Award! Check out the press release here: drive.google.com/file/d/1f8ZKhWrfG27CFssslYBgJh5mb4K-5NOb/view

What is the circuit board mask made out of, and is it acid-etched or washed off after the printing process, and if I am only "designing" the board, and Sierra Circuits is manufacturing it, then, doesn't your end cover that part of the manufacturing process? Or, is this just an informational video for someone who is like a maker/DIYer who's doing this in their garage at home? Anyway, very interesting and excellent information. Thank you!

Designers do more that just layout the traces. They are also in charge of deciding the appropriate materials, what type of holes and vias to use, and where they want to put the soldering. While it's true that we are the experts on the process, there are lot of decisions we can't make for the designer, as they all are affected by their specific needs, and the board's final environment and application. We're always trying to help PCB designers make more informed decisions that are both manufacturable, and can save them time and cost. And to answer your first question, Solder mask (if that is what you mean by board mask) it is made out of a kind of bolymer and is acid-etch off after the printing process. We need more of these videos!... thank you Amit and Sierra Circuits!. I saw you first on the tour that Robert Feranec did. The more designers are aware of the manufacturing process, the better products we make.

It's weird to think in 1952 controlled impedance probably meant ladder line. PCBs were experimental. They'd have to transport a guy from the future -- Sierra Circuits!!
