This podcast popped up and the moment I saw that it was with Nicola Coughlan, how could I resist. This woman is such a lovely human being, a great story teller, beautiful inside out, how can people not love her to bits. Although it’s from 4 years ago, it’s still so interesting to listen to her talk about herself, her family and her life experiences. She is an inspiration to women young and old. Wishing her a long successful and interesting career. Btw, I loved Line of Duty and I am rewatching it now. You were such a bad *ss in it. You’re a superb actor because, in real life, you sound like a genuinely nice guy (so different from the roles I’ve seen you play)! Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦

30:14 totally agree. I'm always taking deliveries for the neighbours in our office estate cos the tossers are never in and they just expect us to take their parcels for them. Sick of it.

Never have I connected with a person as much as I do with Jacob Anderson. I discovered the music part of his career and now I literally listen to it everyday. Great actor as well but please never let that music die out!

It's so obvious that KP is on the autism spectrum that it used to (still) really piss me off the way Gervais treated and mocked him.

It's a shame that you can't ask him any direct questions. After years, I managed to go to rehabilitation, seek help, and now I'm sitting in the hospital because they found crappy kidney values in the rehab. I'm trying to be strong, like Joe said in an interview... You can be proud of the things you've survived so far.

He's an inspiration to all of us. In the Xfm days he was uneducated, sheltered, and naive. Wrongly labelled an idiot and probably got judged because said some offensive things without fully understanding. Now he is one of wisest most genuine people around. You can go to Cambridge uni for years and know less useful things than Karl who had travelled around the world and met real people. I would never approach him thinking I know better than him or tjat Im a better person.

Everybody commenting here seems to come from the Gervais angle of knowing Karl. What if you didn't know anything about Karl? How would you see this conversation? I give you a clue, at around 18 minutes he is as much as admitting that the Idiot Abroad Karl is a persona. May it be that he can relate to it (believable actors often play what they can relate to) but I honestly don't see someone here who would stand out in any way unless he would have been made to stand out in the first place. And calling Christopher Hitchens brainy? Hitchens was probably one of the most eloquent and intellectual people I've listened to. I doubt anyone would NOT call him brainy. It is actually saying something about the listener who choses to listen to Hitchens! Personally I think Karl is a smart but ordinary bloke who gives a shit about communication filters when it comes down to it. He knows full well that leaving those filters at the door is what gets him paid, wether he likes or dislikes the idiot abroad persona, it's what he is known for now, just like Tom Jones is known for Delilah and couldn't leave any show without singing that at least once. He gets paid for what people expect of him, like every other TV personality. This is especially true for people in comedy, for them to break character is almost a death sentence, and Karl is in no different situation. From looking at interviews where Karl is with Ricky and Merchant it seems clear that the Karl people expect is an amalgamation of that interaction, where he is clearly set up to end up looking a certain way to the viewer. If I was in Karl's place in that constallation I would be made a fool just as much, just by the benefit of Ricky's sprawling personality that takes over everything. However, I would not put up with how rude and disrespectful Ricky is towards Karl in most instances unless it was an act I was paid for! I wouldn't be surprised if one day Karl pulled his face off and underneath was Andy Kaufman.

Interesting about letter writing. I feel going through an agent is a barrier as most young people feel it'll never get through. I get it. It's a safety thing. But my oldest son feels it's just remote and it'll be read by someone it's not intended for.

44:45 Karl "I had a bloke who read my arse. It's called rumpology. He said I was going to move to Italy." Craig "Whereabouts?" Karl "He's not that good." Might be the funniest non-Ricky podcast thing Karl has said.

I feel bad people mob him out in the public… that’s not cool. If we all love Karl as we say we do, let he and Suzanne have their much needed respect out and about… he doesn’t want to be a spectacle like the Mona Lisa. He doesn’t care he became famous… most modest guy ever! Let’s not confuse him with Ricky who thrives on attention. Ya know? Ya you do
@PROUDCANADIANGIRL6 ай бұрын
Thank you most of all for letting Karl SPEAK!!!! Ricky never let him speak and believe me, I was the biggest XFM series fan… every time he had a pivoting moment in life, Ricky would bunker down with laughing calling him all sorts and that always irritated me… I didn’t think it was funny or charming. It was down right a piss off. Ok, so we as massive Karl fans I think have always wanted to portent him and just LISTEN to him, because a lot of us can relate to him. Was I raised on an estate in England? No, but did I have a quirky aunt and mom? Sure I did and I wanted to hear Karl without hysterical laughter cutting his thoughts off. Bottom line… Karl came up with VR glasses and Ricky laughed at him and that will always be unforgivable to me and alot of fans. Thanks mate for being a really cool podcasted who LISTENED!!!! 💓

I would have preferred this bloke over Ricky back in the days of XFM… Steve I would have kept… but what I’m saying is, this bloke is bringing out b the real Karl without cutting him off at the knees calling him a dozey twat. Thanks mate… we love Karl to bits and you gave him the respect he has deserved for years !! His mam and dad will appreciate this podcast ( if they listen to podcasts ) 😉. But ya mate, this was brilliant
