Strove is either a common misspelling or a manufacturer. As for the use of strobe lights on a boat it could potentially cause confusion among other boaters. A quick scan through boating forums reveals all manner of gripes about people using flashing lights. Solar lights are next to useless and can't bee seen at a distance. The biggest issue with flashing lights is that they can be confused with navigation lights which could potentially put people at great risk. The use of red and blue flashing lights may also be illegal on any vessel that is not engaged in emergency services. (Alaska DNR Section 05.25.010.) The US coast guard prohibits the use of flashing lights or revolving lights as well, except where expressly allowed by law. Air cushioned vessels display flashing yellow lights. In short, your best option is to illuminate the vessel with while lights so that it will stand out in the dark.

Good points well made. Although as I explained the EU fishing directive appears to advise them. I think Stove is meant to be strobe as V & B are next to each other on the keyboard.

My view is that these lights should be banned. They are confusing and i dont think comply with the collision regs. A number of light of all colours flashing all over spoil an anchorage. And people use them when tied up to dock. 😊

Is the dealer who sold you the incorrect chemical the same as the dealer who is now blanking you? I am guessing your total running hours do not square with the issues you have experienced? Anchoring in busy coastal areas: Personally - anything goes as far as making your boat visible to others - always difficult especially against dense lights ashore. I also have a portable battery driven LED string that I deploy along the rails of the Bimini when chartering - makes it easier to identify the right boat to return to in a busy anchorage.Not a fan of the flashing lights.😉👍⛵️

I'd suggest they shouldn't be used as they're confusing to other mariners, an anchor light is a legal requitement and satisfies COLREG's for insurance perposes, Non flashing deck lights are a good indication as they create a sillouette of the hull.

@@pauldent7067 So if you sail into an anchorage and the is a light that at low level flashing that is not on your chart or chart plotter, not a recognized sequence and has an all round white above it how would be confused? @@SVImpavidus Yes I did watch the video. Small amounts of water in fuel especially from condensation forming in the tank will not cause a hydraulic lock and will burn off in the combustion process as steam, hence white smoke, especially when the engine is cold.

Thank you for a great video. Prompted by your example we finished a very similar LFP upgrade two months ago using 2 x 300Ah SFK batteries, 2 x Victron Orion XS DC2DC chargers, and a 120Ah alternator with a Balmar MC-614 regular. The two Orion XS produce very little heat and do not require a fan at 45A ea. However the alternator was running very hot, over 100degC, at 1000 to 1300 engine RPM while trying to produce ~75A. It took a considerable amount of tweaking but by setting one Orion to shutdown at 13.6V, adjusting the Balmar Belt Load Manager to 65% max field and setting the float voltage to the absorption voltage, the alternator stays just under 100degC over the entire RPM range. It seems all configurations will produce different results. I would keep a eye on the full load alternator temperature at low/moderate RPMs. I think I would like to upgrade to the Arco Zeus regular as is seems more intuitive and has a straight forward Bluetooth. Hower both the Zeus and WS500 require one or two more shunt(s) then my current configuration. Not sure which configuration will be more reliable.
@SVImpavidus
@SVImpavidus 26 күн бұрын
The new B2B from Victron runs a lot cooler and is more efficient. Our extraa extractor fan in the engine bay concentrates on the alternator, but things can get hot! `We have been switching one of the B2B's off on long motoring passages which also helps. The WS500 looks a gret bit of kit but its just outside our budget for now... Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid

We were hit by a small shrimp boat in the Ambracian Gulf. He could not see our mast light. The following morning when we spoke to the local fishermen, including the guy who hit us, they implied one of these types light was mandatory in the bay at Menidi.... and it should be flashing to distinguish it from the town lights in their background. Second case... our friend had a stern anchor out against the swell. A late commer to the anchorage (in low light) didn't realise, ran over the anchor rode, fouled his prop and was subsequently washed aground. Since then my friend and we mark the stern anchor with one of these a lights.

Perfect for bottom of the pool maintenance. One thing - I STRONGLY advise against using these worm clamps when attaching things to your airline. Worm clamps loosen over time, which is decidedly undesirable for an underwater breathing apparatus. Single ear clamps (technically they are called "oetiker" clamps are far more secure and have the added advantage of no sharp edges, unlike worm clamps.
