if you use a commander you have to pay glory... you may assign the commander card in commanders box when you draw it!

Thanks - sometimes it is Admin, not Glory, but yes, I know you must pay to use them in a campaign.
@steveoh92854 күн бұрын
So Joe, as the game builds are there many things that the player has to remember in regards to the various cards, e.g., can’t be used there, discard here, doesn’t apply, if, etc?
@HexedAndCountered3 күн бұрын
No, it's very straightforward. There are some you'll need to keep in mind to play at the appropriate time (like cards that effect an event that hasn't happened yet - as happened with the Arrest card when I had Robespierre on the board, giving me a +2 DRM on the die roll on the Arrest). The drawn card will usually tell you it's impacted by certain other cards so you can also have an "Oh, yeah, I have that card moment" too.

My understanding is that you may place commanders freely but only have to pay to assign to a campaign. You discarded Murat but put the next commander in the box, so it was confusing. Also, all countries start hostile and it looks like you have them in neutral
@HexedAndCountered4 күн бұрын
Thanks. I did realize that about the commanders but never said so. I discarded Murat because his removal was blank so I knew I could just draw him later, I also had several commanders at that point and the number of campaign cards that early is few. The other reason was to keep the card in the draw deck to postpone getting the arrest card until I had both positive DRM cards. That was my thinking anyway - and you're completely correct about the countries all being hostile, I totally missed that when setting up.

Let's see how this goes. These sort of games can be engaging, but they face the threat of being repetitive. In my experience, Silent Victory minimized this threat by the sheer variety of Japanese target ships. I wonder how this one will turn out! :)
@HexedAndCountered7 күн бұрын
Yes, some of them can certainly be repetitious. This one's not too bad in that regard - there are tons of different aircraft with varying equipment & capabilities to fly and there are six or so different enemy bombers and nightfighters with which to contend.

19:00 moving one space using stealth movement to avoid taking opportunity fire doesn’t accomplish anything. It’s functionally the same as moving one space and ending your impulse, thereby starting the opponent’s impulse. Your movement is not interrupted only moving one space and its protection ends when your impulse ends.

Yes, that would put the real players in the game in the year they debuted. What I was setting up in the video is a fictional league with fictional players. For straight historical, there's a toggle to import the real players in their first year.

how do you compare OST to Band of Brothers from Worthington?
@HexedAndCountered13 күн бұрын
That's a tough question from a qualitative standpoint as I greatly enjoy both. I would say that the morale system in BoB is pretty interesting where being suppressed means your squad might - or might not - respond to orders. That's a nice touch. OST on the other hand is a very clean system, not a lot of rules overhead (BoB's not that bad in that regard either but is more complex) and OST's Shaken/Broken mechanic with Gut Check rolls is different, but also good. They named it correctly as it is easy to pick up and play, has a nice throwback feel and with its impulse points, gut checks, etc. provides plenty of agonizing for the player when they don't get what they want/need. Not a definitive answer, but I have all of the current releases of both systems, so obviously I like them both. I also backed the latest BoB offering (I think there's three days left - it's called Stalin's Favorites, which you may already know).
@A._J_.13 күн бұрын
@@HexedAndCountered flipped through the rules of that kickstarter offering. A lot to keep track of but how much added value of all the complexity?
@raymow968312 күн бұрын
I own both series, have played all volumes and both are my favorites. OST is like original squad leader if it was still around but updated/fine tuned. Easy to learn, plays fast and bloody with amazing graphics, beautiful mounted maps and high quality components. BOB is also easy to learn, plays fast but focuses more on maneuver & flanking (The 4 F's ) to achieve results. Much less bloody as in real life but more realistic tactics. Smaller paper maps. Can't go wrong with either.
