How are you guys dealing with 90/180 now you're back on the boat?
@TheSailingNomads
@TheSailingNomads 29 күн бұрын
Arghh it’s a nightmare! No easy answer. It is possible get visa and residencies, but it’s expensive, hurdles and complicated etc.! This season was filmed a couple of years ago.. we’ve sailed two years now on the 90/180 using some of tactics above.. in real-time we’re now leaving the Med (EU), because essentially we can’t be here! The boat (ironically) has more rights to be here than us!!

Nice to see you also clean the beaches and bays. We are also completely bewildered with the enormous pollution in Greece, seems nobody cares about the nature, they dump absolutely everything in the sea. Every bay, city, village we arrive in is heavily polluted, it is like walking through the garbage. Like you we also pick up garbage, but we keep it at 1 bag per bay/beach. By the time we reach shore again we always have 5 or 10 bags on board. Strangely enough, when you come to Turkey or Croatia the pollution is almost non existent, so it is possible for a country to keep nature clean. However when were in Athens 2 weeks ago we realized all hope is lost of the Greeks, even pigs keep their space cleaner than Greeks. Such a pity of what could be a beautiful country. For us the garbage is such a turn off that we will skip Greece for the most part.

Hey thanks so much for watching! Yes we were really surprised at this particular bay.. and still a long way to go.. but it looked better for it (even if only a little!) Greece is such a beautiful place though, with so many islands off the beaten track!

Nice boat, I've got a moody 36. Lived onboard on a mooring for 3 years. I never really rated the wind generators, not much power and noisy. Better a full solar arch with more panels for me. Spinnaker is a great investment as I imagine she's a heavy boat for her size. I also have a 25kg mantus anchor which is too heavy for the boat but once it held us in over 80 Knott winds in a freak storm in the med. What are your future sailing plans?
@TheSailingNomads
@TheSailingNomads 6 ай бұрын
Ooooo mantus anchor was something we considered!! Our only fear is not being able to pull up manually if needed. Spinnaker pole is deffo a good idea thou, especially for further afield. Love the moodys too, we nearly went for one in Scotland.. but settled for a bit less room in the end to keep costs down! Thanks for watching though and fair winds to you!!

Hi guys. Great video. We are about to buy a boat in Preveza BUT I’ve just discovered this rule about 90 days stay only in 180 period. How on earth are you getting around this??
@TheSailingNomads

Hi Julie! Thanks for watching :) and how exciting for you! Mmmmmmm yes unfortunately this was one of the major outcomes of Brexit.. (ending free movement of people).. alas there is no getting round this, however, Aussies and now us Brits can do what’s called the “Schengen shuffle”, which essentially involves careful planning in and staying outside the Schengen area for 90days.. countries like Tunisia, Montenegro, Morocco etc. or further afield. Or you can apply for one of the (paperwork heavy and income dependent) visitor residency permits for one of the Schengen countries.. Greece, France and Portugal are some that we know of.. who seem to offer this! Really hope this helps and good luck 🤞🏼

Thanks for sharing these moments! Day 6 of owning our boat our prop shaft fell out of the boat and we were taking on water, we plugged the hole with a plug and bailed water out of the bilge for over an hour (we found out later that there was carton which blocked the bilge pump). Like you we made it to our destination under sail and someone helped us with a dingy to our mooring ball. We put the prop shaft back toghether all was well in retrospect but at the time, we too were questioning moving onto a boat!

Thanks for joining us! I suppose one way of looking at the Greek tax is that they can put it towards maintaining the beauty E.g. rubbish collection for cruisers, town quays etc. whether they will or not is of course another matter!

Hi Paul, yes thankfully we went on a bit of a long and winding wild goose chase when we purchased Caladh, so are ok with the paperwork. We also got a T2L document, which has gained a nod from some of the ports we’ve visited 👍🏻 it’s a rubbish situation isn’t it, we’re currently planning our passage around 3-months in and 3-months out.. 🤪 xxx

Is there a reason you replaced those mechanical fittings on your standing rigging with swaged ones? They are reusable (-the cone) and very reliable. Great video/channel, thank you.
@TheSailingNomads
@TheSailingNomads 3 жыл бұрын
Hiya :) we kept the turnbuckles, but replaced everything else. Is that what you meant? So the swaged terminals were the shrouds that hooks to the mast? Hope that makes sense! 👍🏻 thanks again xxx
@chicoastro1
@chicoastro1 3 жыл бұрын
I meant the part that goes above the turnbuckle, the screw/cable attachment part, I thought I had seen something else. The important thing is that you have new standing rigging, you should be good for another decade or two. I watched the episode again but could not spot the fitting, maybe it was the wine? On the plus side, I did get to see the harbor master's outfits again. ;-D Cheers!

A part of my sailing experience comes from racing, you should see (hear) the shouting that takes place there. Shouting out of frustration never helps a skipper achieve what they need, it usually comes from failing to anticipate the event taking place and failing to recognize that. It IS possible to convey urgency without disrespect. I like the chats, cheers!
@TheSailingNomads
@TheSailingNomads 3 жыл бұрын
Oh you’re sooo right! Kath has raced a lot (dinghies and yachts) and yes sadly shouting was very common! What is it they say though... anger is often a display of fear or sadness? The better helms know how to communicate with their crew, or even get to the point where they don’t need to speak that much at all... it becomes intuitive. The shouty helms lost good crew occasionally too. So in the long run respect always wins!! Thanks for watching :) xx

Hi Donald, thanks so much for your message and watching our antics! Gosh yes it’s hard isn’t it deciding what to ditch, keep or sell.. we found that there were quite a few phases of filtering! Some days we weren’t ready to let go of something, but then you sleep on it and it’s fine, you’re ready! It’s all the memories, gifts you’ve been given, items you’ve saved for the rainy day, or things that “just might be useful”!! etc. Good luck with it all, for what it’s worth it’s an extremely liberating feeling once done! We also became the worst gift givers afterwards, because we could no longer think of anything people could possibly need!! :) thanks again and all the best! Take care, Kath & T xx
