I am not a drummer, but i admire what some of them can do. dany is one of my idols. To.me it was imoressive how he droped the stick and still.kept the tempo.... Fuck!

I love how one can just tell he knows every beat that's coming ahead, almost like he's thinking ahead and grooves with it as it comes along. To me, Danny's style isn't so much overly-technical filler and blast beats, but more groove-oriented.

I come back to this video multiple times a week it seems. I just can't get over how good this is. Danny the GOAT.

So, at 6:36 mark, what on earth happens there? :D I see that at least his left leg is pounding the hi-hat in quarter notes, right leg is hitting the bass drum 5/8 (in 2/8 + 3/8 subdivisions), the hands seem to be hitting the toms in a 3/8 Swiss triplet pattern that repeats every four cycles (totaling for 12/8), except for the left hand that hits the snare for every third quarter note (signifying for an underlying 3/4 pulse along with the 1/4 hi-hat) and the right hand that hits the china or crash when the subdivisions add up and a new cycle starts (after 15/4, i.e. every five bars of 3/4). Am I still missing something?

i really had no idea just how wild of a danny carey showcase this song was until i saw this video. that whole album needs remixed and remastered. joe baressi really has worked hard to round off the instruments. i always loathed the song "the pot" then i finally saw tool for the first time about a year ago and that song kicks so much ass. i listen to it all the time now. its like he's rounding off all the frequencies of the band and not letting the drums ring out like in a nickel back mix/master session. theres a LITTLE more midrange coming from the guitars on the new album, but then you get like, the metal riff on invincible only on adam's clean channel? joe is really bad with not letting the drums ring out and breathe. and if adam is playing a distorted guitar part, you can't hear justin most of the time. the youtube channel, toolbass or whatever, has him playing justin's parts on jambi and they are FANTASTIC. jambi is every bit a justin showcase song as it is an adam showcase song. joe baressi, stop messing up
