Rare for us in England to be warm ,let alone hot 😅. That's such a lovely gentle smile on Trevors blade , the only good stainless razors I know ....and 20k edge is hard to beat on any steel . You always achieve a great lather , no matter what soap, and I agree synthetics are brilliant 🎉 great shave Gary 😊.

Great video Gary! I wonder how different is a 20k suehiro edge against a high grit pasted strop? Thanks my friend

To be fair I've compared both many times and I actually think the shave off a finishing stone just is better feel there close but if you get the most from the stones I don't think paste has a lot to add and can in most cases take the edge a little more to far

I thought you'd like it Gary, especially as you've sensitive skin , I find it totally non irritating, and great post shave feel . You confirmed my opinion on Eric's abilities as an alchemist of Cajun soap 😊. It takes a real expert in shaving to make a great soap . The Cajun blade is on utube , fabulous channel 😀

Nice teaching vid. Love the Swede and the natural scales. 👍 I had a couple of small Herold ‘RI’ hanging strops that I mounted to balsa. I really liked the feel of them & noticed they make a loom strop from the same leather cut. Maybe one day I’ll get one.

Hi Gary, do you think Naniwas are suitable stones for this method? You know Naniwas that need flattening. They change shape quickly. I just got the plate from a friend, but I'm not sure which stones to start with :)

Hi Gary, have you ever tried the naniwa hayabusa 4k or fuji 8k? If so, what do you think of them? I already ordered the 4k, although it has not arrived yet but I have read in some forums that these stones have the problem that they deform when they dry, do you know anything about this? Thank you

@@garyhaywood6013 Some people say that the Fuji can be used to finish a razor without using pastes afterwards, just clean leather. Have you ever tried this? Im new on hoing and my budget is limited, so I want to try that to shave like this for few months maybe and then buy a 12k or a 10k

I have full older stone that is mid range and a slurry stone that is lower range, so mine are only good for removing steel quickly. They work well with the hindostan stone that I have for setting the bevel. One day I hope that I can get one that will work as a finishing stone. Thank you for sharing.

Hello gary the reason why the razor is tight when closing and not tight when opened is quite simple really, the pins were tightened with the razor closed and the variation in thickness of the inside of the scales causes it go from tight to lose. I don’t think its anything wrong with the scales, i think there’s something wrong with the pin. It must be bent thus why the razor doesn’t close center. Send it to me i’ll fix it for you if you want you just pay shipping.

The 10k kouseki isn't cheap but it does produce a better edge than 12k naniwa and it seems a lot more user friendly as in you can get away with to many strokes plus it eliminates the need for 8k .

I remember buying my dad old spice for Christmas when i was a boy. He was a wet shaver for 70 years . Old school is usually better on most things . Glad you're using quality brushes , i tried a parker badger brush last shave , I'd have been grateful for your old spice to kill the wet dog smell 😅. My test now is whats the post shave feel ? ½hour is my test , if no irritation, and smooth its a good soap. You've a good nose Gary! ( ive a cold 🤧) Your Filly is a masterpiece on 10k kouseki edge , what a great shave test 👌.

@@garyhaywood6013 Thanks Gary, I recently acquired a TI Spartacus, it is incredibly thin for a TI, I loved the c135 steel, I consider it to be between Swedish steel and tamahagane, with tamahagane being the hardest but you get incredibly sharp edges so far it is the best steel that I have tried so far. Beautiful lather, and stubble generated ! 😅. (Crox experiment sounds good idea 👍 as that blade was doing such a great job . 👏. ) I've only one little ⅝ Ti ....your the expert on them . Thanks for another interesting Video Gary, I’ll try the pyramid method, I have a lovely 6/8 TI, I am just getting better at honing, 12k Naniwa is just too sharp, so I bought a lovely Charnley forrest stone last week on eBay, very hard, it came to me reasonably flat, but after 30 minutes on my diamond plate it’s dead flat. I have not honed on it yet. What are your thoughts on a Charnley forrest as a finisher Gary?
