Disregard the haters lol. Canon AE-1 Program for life. It's the perfect little blaster. Picked it up at a thrift store out of curiosity (with a few lenses), knowing little about it, and it's been a dream. Also got a Yashica 200-AF, but it just doesn't feel right. AE-1 Program for LIFE.

18:51 that's literally hydraulic oil, it's meant to not do anything. Mechanical abrasives work well, you just need to avoid heat buildup.

You should be very proud of yourself, especially with the limited tools and experience, no one was born with a life manual and at 73 i have done many things, house related and renovated five, and I’m impressed, I used to do wooden plaques for firemen retiring and this was in Sheffield, i got wood from Funeral Directors and had their axes chromed, doweled them on so there was no visible fixings, had a engraving brass plaque, engraved with their service and also mounted the badges, i used Briwax with steel wool and that got 10 coats, but i think i might have a go at the grip, i collect cameras and X700 was my first SLR when it came out, i have about three now and many other cameras, so anyway well done. New subscriber here. Great video with really useful tips. Facebook marketplace was the place where I got my latest bargain deal: a Olympus OM-2 with a motor drive, a Zuiko 50mm f:1,4 and a Tokina 28mm f:2,8 for 100 euro (about the same in USD). The camera is in good condition and working fine, just needs a good cleaning, lubrification and new light seals. The lenses are in good condition too, glass is unscratched, some dust and fungus inside. A good cleanup of all this gear is gonna be my upcoming project so I can use it during my summer holidays. Great video, I am actually on the verge of giving on a friends X-700. I replaced the capacitors and tried different batteries and battery tray. Would you mind expanding on how this camera was jammed? I suspect this mine might be jammed too. Not sure where to look.

Advice from a professional car painter. Painting over existing paint is not ever really an issue unless it's flaking. Feather out any flaked spots and hit it with some primer, or for metal acid etch primer. Sand if necessary between coats then paint your part. Always make sure to add a protective clear coat over the paint and your done. You can buff after for a perfectly glass like finish, or leave it be. Hope this helps in your future endeavors. Stripping is almost always unnecessary imho unless you have rust or corrosion under it. 🤟🤘✌️ Edit: 600-800 is the preferred sanding grit for a nice finish before painting. Oh and use real clear coat for cars, it's a guarantee on sticking and staying.

Tip on the airbrushing, back up your airbrush and move a single direction in even strokes. Then change the orientation of the object. By the time you hit the piece from every angle you'll have a decent amount of coats built up. You were having issues with paint thickness because of the motion you are using at 22:15.

First of all, congratulations on the mechatronic skills you have; I wanted to ask you something: I bought a Minolta, a beautiful Minolta, EX-1 in perfect cosmetic condition. Unfortunately, however, despite new batteries, the mirror remains raised and the shutter does not click, rather it is as if it disarms without opening. It says in the manual that when this happens, it means the batteries are flat. But in my case this is not possible because I have just put in new ones. I tried giving it some contact spray and, after a while, it started working in AUTO. In manual, however, the mirror stays up and the shutter opens but does not close. The battery light works and so does the exposure meter. Can you help me? Thank you very much. Riccardo

If you want cheap slr with cheap and „easy” repairs, thats also light. I’ll recomened Yashica FX-3. The biggest down side is the leatherette that now looks like burned plastic on every camera and the lens selection. You can eliminate both of this by buying new leather and lens adapters. Cheers

Great video, when I was looking for a rangefinder to play around with I also found it seemed like slim pickings compared to all the affordable options with regard to SLR's, I ended up with a little auto compact which is super handy in low light with its flash, and very easy to carry around. I just take it everywhere, too many times I bought an SLR somewhere and had to lug it around for no reason, or wished I had a camera but didnt bring it. I think the big learning curve for me when I first got into buying SLRs was figuring out what lenses fit on what. Luckily most of the big brands seemed reluctant to change lens mounts for long periods of time. Would also love to see a teardown/cla video of that 50mm macro, I've kind of wanted one of those for a while but haven't seen one come up for a price I'd pay just yet.

Hey you mentioned using the Minolta 50mm f3.5 for scanning film, have you tried that out yet? I want to get into scanning my own film if I can. I have a Sony A7R that I have a few adaptors for, one being an MD mount so using a Minolta lens would be ideal.

In the 1967, I purchased my first 35mm SLR camera, a Miranda Sensorex. It was unreliable. I got rid of it because broke too many within its three-year warrantee. After the Sensorex, other 35mm SLRs I used included Pentax Spotmatic, Fuji ST705, and Nikon F, F2, F3, F4, EM, N70, and N2000. All, except the Miranda, were reliable cameras. My personal favorite was the Nikon F2 with 35mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, and 180mm f/2.8 lenses.
