Hey! I'm that "chap from Canada". Now I'm famous... or infamous. It has been fun playing with you. I will get the next log back to you today, I promise. I can concur that the interjecting of moves in a log sounds more complicated than it is in practice. It flows naturally as long as you already understand the flow of the ASL or ASLSK turn sequence.

Great, glad you enjoyed it! I've pretty much convinced myself to be honest... I think it's great that LNL offer so many different ways to enjoy the games, but I'll probably stay away from digital - half the fun is getting away from screens and pushing some cardboard around!

≥30 hexes, but yeah - didn't even get to the end of Turn 4 here. The Germans still had their turn to play, but getting 11 of those hill breeds back under their control was practically impossible!

These dice came from some random games warehouse, I ordered a kilo of random dice, and these were in there. Along with a huge set for a D1000, some with runes on, and a strange orange die where every single face is blank, except for a single 4. Still no idea where that one came from lol

FYI: Mortars can't fire from buildings. I played this one back in the day, I think the Germans won right at the end after some CC and locking up a couple hexes in melee (units are not Good Order then). That's the ideal spot for the American AT gun (on the hill overlooking the town square). It caused my Germans nothing but massive headaches. 22:57 those broken Americans couldn't rout to U5 as they have LOS to the Germans on the hill in Q4 (moving closer). They would have had to rout to W5. Anyway, yes, mortar placement is difficult in this scenario. I think I had it back in H5 to pound Americans in any buildings on the hills (O9, P8, O6, O5, etc) in the center of the board, then once the Americans were pushed out of those hill buildings I just abandoned it and ran the crew into the fray. Remember that mortar also has s8 (smoke) ammo. Anyway, good game and definitely a tough one!
@CategorySolo
@CategorySolo 6 ай бұрын
Ooh, good spot with that rout. Obvious now, one of the issues with solo on any game is the lack of an opponent to point out the errors! I need to think more about using smoke, definitely underused in my arsenal. Had fun though, now onto S16!

I don't know if there are Stacking limitations on setup, but move your troops as close as possible to the start line. that is almost an entire MPh for them to barely move past the setup line. MTR: setup mtr J4 with LOS to the Americans on the hill in P4....Drop SMOKE rounds on him and other areas if you get ROF. With the P4 unit shrouded in SMOKE. (+4 to fire out) your units are virtually in "stone buildings" when moving up to get POINT BLANK on him..and jump into CC or otherwise. Maybe just move by him. But leave a 8-0 leader with the MTR and maybe a squad to fully move the MTR easily down the hill on on the road. You could also setup in J6 and SMOKE the top side of the map in the road to allow easy movement Definately keep the HMG with a LEADER Be careful with LOS over orchards, 22:20 the Germans DMed the Americans. If the orchards are in season, there is no LOS there.
@CategorySolo
@CategorySolo 6 ай бұрын
Only setup stacking limits are on the Americans, only restriction for the Germans was the requirement to be on level 1 terrain. Very good points on using the MTR to create a smoke shield - I will take this piece of wisdom in for future! I did remember the orchard rule, but it's a December scenario so shouldn't block LOS (if I've got that right). I've been keeping an eye on terrain rules like that after getting a grain season wrong and completely changing a scenario! Every game I feel like I'm learning the system more

I think there’s a chart that is created in VASL that shows your average die rolls
@CategorySolo
@CategorySolo 6 ай бұрын
Yeah - only seems to show rolls made that day, and not rolls that happened in a log file you're walking through... The "VASL Templates" program had a good bit for analysing log files, but that doesn't seem to work with the latest VASL/VASSAL version thougj

Man, this looks tough to win.
@CategorySolo
@CategorySolo 6 ай бұрын
Definitely seems tough for the Germans, but doesn't feel impossible. I don't think I explained the victory conditions just right - the Germans win if there are no good-order American MMCs in buildings in the victory area at the end. So Germans just need to break them all or force them to rout away from the buildings. Still tough, but feels possible
@ASLAcademy
@ASLAcademy 6 ай бұрын
@@CategorySolo They don't even need to do that. If a unit is locked in melee they are not in good order. Germans just jump into near equal odds CC and you probably tie them up in the end.

Since you asked for suggestions here are mine: a) Use the TH table as the Germans are approaching using non-assault movement. That usually translates into base 8 TH + hindrances - 1 For FFNAM. Then if you do hit you get a 4 FP attack without modifiers on the IFT. b) Use the IFT when the Germans moves close/point blank. The IFT equivalent is doubled for point blank fire and also reduces your ROF to 2 instead of 3. c) Use the Greeks as speed bumps. Best to position the units along the suspected axis lines of advance. d) Consider -- if possible -- positioning your Allied troops in a way to disrupt the axis rout paths. Excellent video keep up the good work. I enjoy your videos.
@CategorySolo
@CategorySolo 7 ай бұрын
Thanks George. Good idea on the IFE usage, makes a lot of sense to use at close range. My useless of the Greeks was very ineffectual, even as a fire group they didn't provide the cover fire I'd hoped. In future I'll probably try and use them as roadbumps like you said - I've thought about a kind of "reverse skulking", keep them closer to the enemy to catch any SFF then take cover again in the APh if possible... Hopefully now the festive period is winding down I'll get some of my house back from decorations, and less social events so I can get back to gaming and making a few more videos!

I've not played this one but looks fun. Looks like you used acquisition counters at some point. Were you using the To Hit process firing 40mm, or using the gun's IFE (8 FP)? I ask because 40mm will only give you 4 FP vs. 8 FP using IFE, and you don't have to secure a hit...just fire them like giant HMGs (with ROF being one less for using IFE).
@CategorySolo
@CategorySolo 7 ай бұрын
I did a bit of both, basically my second game using the big guns, so still trying to grok the to hit process and differences - as much a learning exercise as a gaming one. Overall, I think these were more successful when used as Infantry fire Vs IFE, as it kept the ROF - and the -2 from acquisition balanced the hinderance of the grain they were shooting through. Can definitely see how IFE would be better in a lot of situations though!

@CategorySolo

That's good to hear, haven't started reading the rules yet (keeping it simple until I get to those scenarios!) I have also been thinking how to do HIP solo, using a few "possible location" counters for each gun. Then rolling when a possible location comes into LOS, to determine if the gun is there, or leaving it to the other possibilities.... Still fleshing out the idea, will probably make a video when I'm happy with how it works

My attempt - I think I messed up a ton of rules - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nMiPh5qqndmxeZc.htmlsi=gCE6u-McdnkitxQo I set up in trees. Can I not do that?
@CategorySolo
@CategorySolo 7 ай бұрын
Nothing stops you from seeing up in trees, as long as you keep away from the buildings. I just felt that being in the grain would give the +2 emplacement TEM instead of +1 for woods (plus some hindrance that acquisition could overcome), and less chance to sneak up the DCs where the thicker tree patches block LOS. Will check out your video later!
