Great comparison. It is pretty clear where Viking got their "inspiration" from. Almost feels like they could be made in the same factory they are so close. Curious to learn about the company. They are advertised as designed in California, but clearly, with their Adv gear, that is not the case. Sadly, while I disagree with copying someone else's work, Mosko charges over premium prices for what you get, which comes from someone who owned Mosko gear. In fact, I was an early adopter and really liked what they were doing. Now, I think they are chasing the dollar signs and not what their core was. I tried to buy some of their newer stuff, but when it arrived I just could not come to terms with the price vs what you get. That's just my opinion. I am not a business guy, just a consumer.

Hmm I generally run 30/35 psi on my AT cause I’m constantly switching between dirt and paved roads. Been running the Shinko 804/805 They’re good at 100mph and not noisy. I can safely lean the bike way over while cornering on pavement with them and they still do pretty decent off-road … but I’m only getting about 4k out of the rear so I’m thinking of switching to motoz or maybe these next.

I've talked about tire wear in both of my reviews, there's nothing you can do to fix it it's , it's happening on every single off-road tire that has said a decent amount of payment, doesn't matter the brand or anything...just what happens when you run an offroad tire on the pavement

@dimsyadventures
@dimsyadventures 27 күн бұрын
Funny enough, I used to be a huge fan of that shinko, like to the point I wouldn't use anything else, about 4 years ago I had some issues with the set in the traction department, 2 years ago I tried again on my BMW GSA, I have the same exact issues you talk about, they were very unpredictable even in gravel, so I left that brand all together, they're okay tires if you just need tires however
@Catboy-hr2qp
@Catboy-hr2qp 27 күн бұрын
@dimsyadventures yah they came on the klr when I bought it, it's an 05 probably about 70% life left on the front and maybe 30% left on the rear. The road I have issues on is just your standard forest service road with light gravel on top of hard pack and it's all over the place, glad to know I'm not crazy and it's likely just the tires, it sucks because they do so good everywhere else especially on pavement and hard pack at highway speeds

Everyone has to decide for themself. As long as you enjoy it, keep riding. I quit riding for quite a while due to family, work, and finances. Now, that working is mostly behind me, I found that motorcycling is a very important part of my life. Solo travel and solo camping keep me sane. I've never been to the southeast US, so that's on my bucket list.

The last 3.5 years of work took a lot of time away, and just the mental part, couldn't disconnect from it..when I did travel it was for work, so I really could do much but ride there..before that I was so broke in couldn't manage a bike trip...but I some how managed 2 of them. Southeast is humid and hot, with bugs..Gulf Coast is a sight to see no doubt, Appalachia is flat stunning, and mid-southwest Missouri/northwest Arkansas is amazing too (super old "Ozark" mountain range) Everything in between looks pretty similar haha

I have a 2017 Africa Twin, same colors as yours. I converted my rear wheel to tubeless using the 3M tape method and a 90 degree Ariete valve stem. Makes tire changes much easier. And roadside repairs are from the outside. Generally punctures happen to the rear wheel. So far I’ve been using Shinko 705’s on it, but just got a set of these Tusk tires to go on next. I’ve been mounting and balancing my own tires for a long time. The biggest secret is all about getting the opposite bead in the drop-center of the rim. I’ve even mounted a car tire on the back of an FJR1300 (ended up not liking the dark-side) using spoons. It’s all about the technique, not brute force.

For the extra minute or 2 it takes for a tube I'll stick with those, id still be carrying a rear tube in case the seal fails. I've been changing bike tires for many years with my beadpros, generally it takes no more then 5 minutes to put a new tire/tube in. These tusk tires and trail max mission are the only 2 with very stiff sidewalls that have been a slight annoyance for ne...plus I have very large hand which absolutely doesn't help

Just ordered a 2 track for the rear and a waypoint for the front of my 2017 Africa Twin. I have been running Shinko 705’s front and rear, which are great on road, but not as great off pavement. I have converted my rear to tubeless (3M tape method) but run a tube up front. I live in Vermont where there are more unpaved roads than paved, so having a better offroad tire will be welcome.

Good advice on trying different things w/ set-up w/ new tires. I purchased some Dunlop Trailmax mission tires - thought they were complete garbage! Speed wobbles any time I went over 90, didn't handle well on or off road. Eventually realized most of the problems were due to not having suspension set up correctly, running too high tire pressure. The Missions still aren't my favorite tire, but I can see where they would have their place on a long trip (home to Arctic circle and back) etc. Side benefit, I learned how to properly adjust my suspension!
@dimsyadventures

Good to hear, it's a hidden "feature" many don't bother trying to fix, or don't know suspension isn't just how comfortable on your backside is over bumps 😆
