I could do with advice. I've got an elephant hawk moth caterpillar I am trying to rescue as I can't find a safe space for it with the correct food. However I saw an article that talked about leaving a layer of compost 10cm thick I think it's as some burrow to pupate. Any ideas? Tips in general would help massively.

Hii i have a big question dear, I recently saw a moth laying egg just in front of me nd i ran and collected one egg cus it was too low to get hurt and i took that inside my room in a jar with leaves waited for 5 days it hatched but after that i gave that lil one fresh leaves but he didn’t ate anything and died the next day can you tell why??

this is gonna sound crazy but are you Singaporean? I can't explain why but those D. nerii and those adeniums look so Singaporean, idk maybe after looking at so many I kinda recognize the vibes. The shrivelled caterpillar could be due to viruses, sometimes they just spread from the mom to the eggs (like hepatitis) and there's nth u can do about it besides keeping each one in a separate plastic cup (very hard if there are large batches so i just try to keep them well spaced) let me know if you have raised/are keen on raising other local caterpillars, i have some experience with hawk moths
