How do you predefine the line weight on sketchup so that in Illustrator we can same select specific groups of line so that we can change the thickness of it?

make sure the profiles and lines have different number in sketchup while exporting the pdf. When you import it in illustrator.. u can group them per stroke width

What template should we use when we use illustrator for this, and does the image need to be saved a certain way? Sorry, I am really new to illustrator!

you can copy the picture and paste it into illustrator. if you have a MacBook, you can drag the picture to illustrator. Doesn't need to be saved :)
