The Deception/Kagero series is definitely my Black Sheep games. They're odd but really fun, it's a shame they flew under the radar and they're owned by Techmo Koei, so if we get another it'll probably be a DLC waifu outfit hell that never goes on sale.

1:36:49 Dude yeah! I know some of the other characters changed a bit too throughout the seasons but Ryosuke always looked a lot more different than in the previous season. I really like his look in season 2 though. The purple striped shirt, the off-white coat. He looks more laid back and mature than the darker tones from the first season, and I think it's a fitting change to where he is in the story at that point too. Man, he's so cool.

I missed living in the PSX era but I inherited the games of that time. The games these days dont hit the same. Not enough risk taking or creativity. Going to give this one a spin for sure.

Thank you for such an amazing time with this one! I love RPG games and I found myself getting so many of the games you've made videos on, this one is no exception! Thank you for what you do!

I watched this on and off over the course of the last couple weeks. It’s the first video I’ve ever put on to go to bed to, but become so enraptured by that, when I fell asleep partway through, went back to the spot I’d left off the next night. The cultural and historical context you provide for this is wonderful, and enhances the whole experience. Thank you.

Ooooh I get it, to heal from any past trauma you have to reckon with both your feelings/pain and the reality (or your perceived reality) and then move forward with the knowledge that you may never be the same, or even at peace, again. I guess the archangel is the part of the world (if not you) that just wants to eliminate that pain, and since you can read it as metaphorical, then the repeated attempts to tear out the part of you that's hurting is like a mental spiral, the kind of thing that really does drive people insane. That being said, the gritty nature of the rouge-like offers a fascinating read of "You can try as many times as you like, you can always get up after you fall, even if you have nothing, you can still make it" which is bizarrely hopeful given the setting nbvhjdfks (tho... given "making it" is an ending that's more open than a restaurant at lunch rush...)

Native English speaker here: The word "Baroque" makes perfect sense for "delusional". The word baroque was applied to the art movement because it was far more dramatic and over-the-top than the more subdued art of the Renaissance Here's the thing though: "Baroque" was originally an insult to the art. Many people found it barbaric and tastelessly outrageous I think the devs were art history nerds :P

The moment I thought about Palace of the Dead in FFXIV while watching another video about Baroque...I felt kinda weird. Like damn...this really is the proto game for...probably a lot of games. And to be honest...any indy making a spiritual successor to this, might hit something big!

I'll upvote and subscribe. It took me several days to get through this video. Modern gaming feels very corporate, sterile, and sometimes soulless. We don't really get experimental things like this anymore.

For anyone curious, the show "at midnight" was not a timed event. You could wander around for literal days and "midnight" would never come. It was based on plot advancement, and, like all good 90s point-and-clicks, if you advanced the story too far and missed something (a green key for example), you were fucked and had to either restart or load a previous save.

Unintentional hilarity that he mocks the game for how they say gondola but mispronounces progenitor like 10 seconds into the video. Funny bloopers aside. Good job a nice retrospective.

That ambient music makes for such a creepier experience. This is why Doom 64 terrified me the most out of all Doom games I played as a kid. The bigger sprites and creepy ass music made it actually feel more like a horror game. I got so scared I turned the game off once lol

I love watching this kind of games. Playing... not so much. Games where I can't fight back just tend to frustrate or stress me too much. Which is kinda sad because most of these have really good stories and mechanics that surely took a lot of time to make. As a child I used to play Clocktower 3 with some friends. We were about 11, I believe? And yes, I know now that it wasn't appropiate to have access to these games at that age but honestly, I took it well. My mum always made sure to talk about such things because she knew she couldn't always control what I see or hear when staying with friends. She would step in if she thought something was too much but usually she would make sure we could process these things appropiately. You can't shield your children from everything. Back to the game. The first few tries we would torn off the PS whenever the Sledgehammer started to chase Alyssa. Once we actually got all the way through his arc and made it to the Corroder but we never played past that. It was a thrill but I found I prefered to watch other people play those kind of games as it reduced my stress levels very much. Still love watching them though.

Aww man, I loved the Wii version of this game, so cool to stumble on this video! I fondly remember purposely dying like 50 times in a row, specifically on the first level of the tower, to get a ton of unique dialog from the Archangel. He gets progressively more angry and disappointed in you every time you come back. Getting all the voicelines is basically the achievement system of this game, and there are so many unique ways to obtain dialog lines. You have a mute MC and an NPC that says your thoughts outloud, like there's so much you can do just with that. Such an incredible game, I'd highly recommend it to anyone who likes spooky games and achievement hunting! :)

Hey man just recently discovered your channel. Everything I've watch so far is well-made and a pleasure to watch. Your channel has taken this old gamer back to simpler times and I'm even discovering a lot of games I've never played back then and they all remind me of a time when gaming was a lot more cherished and meaningful, for me at least. Thank you for making these videos. It's not much, but you've definitely earned my sub. More power to your channel
