Your obviously speaking from a perspective/objective of showmanship while executing spinning moves. Crossing the nunchakus is an extremely important basic movement for actual combat situations in traditional Okinawan Karate. It's the strongest block you can make while defending yourself against other weapons, even against swords when done correctly. It's one of the first things you learn in traditional Okinawan nunchaku kata. You are completely correct however from the point of view of training for freestyle kata, where being smooth and flashy is the main objective. Just thought I'd point this out for those just beginning to learn. Very good series you've made here for beginners. Your training tips are very well thought out and helpful for learning/creating tournament style weapons kata.....Well done. :)

Using nunchucks for non self defense is diabolical 😅

You have never been in a violent situation I can tell by the way you talk, nunchucks are a great weapon I know this cause I have used it quite successfully twice, also a great weapon for defending against dog attacks. Martial arts has been watered down so much you got people like you who only know fancy forms but don’t know anything about real self defense or offense. Nunchucks if swung properly create a severe stinging and pain and are hidden quite well. Also when you say if someone just attacks they aren’t going give you time to get your nunchucks usually if you half a brain and are paying attention you should see certain signs from someone planning to rob you or if someone is acting crazy out in public. You talk about laws like do you not see all the car jackings in major U.S. cities and hardly any repercussions.

You shouldnt do any fancy moves, to use them as a weapon and not a fancy toy is effective

When used to make these back in the 90's, i pulled the knot into the lower hole on one chuk to hide it. That also keeps the knot from coming undone because it's a tight fit. Now stain those chuks and make em purdy.
