I don't know if you caught this video, but I saw these guys at the oldtime festival last month. He had a modified fender mini with the frets ripped out for that fretless banjo sound, and strung with a high 5 string like a banjo. It has this really psychadelic, but still traditional sound. Really interesting.

Thanks Chris! Right beside that tree has become a favorite busking spot of mine! Lots of traffic, and its down at the ocean waterfront, so theres always a nice breeze

I know Elizabeth Cotten worked as a caretaker for the Seeger family in the 40's, and thats when they discovered she was a folk singer, so that's entirely possible eh!
