He did this in 1972, a time when few Americans understood bike racing. Sportscasters focused on the bread and butter of American sports - baseball, football, basketball. I don't remember one mention of Merckx's incredible achievement back then. Sports Illustrated did do a write-up on him in an early 70s issue. But for most Americans, Eddy Merckx was a foreign name in a foreign sport.

I feel bad looking at them, knowing how much more bike I need to ride the same stuff.. I mean they dont even have disk brakes:] Nothing, they are going down hill naked. Riding my bike is like riding a magic carpet.. I can do anything on it, modern full suspension bikes with modern brakes and 29s will roll over anything.

Full-Suspension? Slack head angle? Dropper post? Man you must've had a weird dream. Now come on, let's get our mountainbikes from the shop and ride them through the city. They've got even fatter tires on now. Almost 2 inches wide, it's crazy.

I have 2 of these old school type mtbs lol, and as weird as it sounds I wanna slap a suspension fork on the front of each of them and convent them to disc brakes JUST to see how good it would ride

What a beautiful time then. Eddy Merckx = "The Cannibal" they give at him this Nickname because Eddy it was the Greatest Winner 🏆 of the History of Cycling, because he takes the one Victory to another (!). In his Great Carrier he has over than 500 Victories Totally (!). Also his son Axel Merckx it was at the podium of Olympic Games in Greece Athens 2004 at the Third place bronze metal (!). Eddy Merckx Always on 🌹🔝🌹 🏆🚴🏆👩🚀👍

The riding is just off the wall, but on par with the riding is the editing and early early videography. We did not have good technology during these years!

Us 70s/80s kids who lived on our BMX bikes became the totally rad (lol) mountain bikers of the 90s. Great times.
