There's another version with a more banana-shaped headstock, but I think those are earlier versions than this one. There was a sort of fad for making skinnier versions of different basses. Sometime in the early 90s I think. There was these, Charvels, and some of the Korean-built Westones were a similar concept but they were just pointier and not so 'minimal'.
@MADMALKO7 сағат бұрын
think every company had a bass that looks like this in 87, this ones quite early to the scene being from 86, i notice the emg type pickup covers hadnt quite taken over by then.superstrats were popular so lets try and make a superpbass! i think the japanese liked the 32" scale for the domestic market as theyre generally dont have as big hands as westerners
@functio17 сағат бұрын
@@MADMALKO I think the smaller basses are generally one of those things that's trying to get people to play bass, whatever their size, across the world. Started with those godawful violin things that McCartney used to play and various other short-scale basses. Then you had medium scale, then you had... various mutations XD The skinny pointy guitars were just popular in Japan because there was a lot of bands in the country at the time that were sort of rock, sort of metal, sort of glam, sort of punk. All sorts of weird and wonderful guitars/basses evolved from that and just didn't get exported much. This was still going on in the 90s - I have a 1996 Burny/Fernandes EB-95X that originally just made for one bass player in the Japanese band 'X Japan' and then it was made for general release. It's quite mad, even tho' it has a sort of Rickenbacker neck on a BC Rich Mockingbird pickup/electrics setup... but it's all on steroids (switch it to active mode and it turns into its own distortion/fuzzbox). Generally I think Japan has a lot less conservative market than the US and they don't really care what Fender do as they can do better anyway ;)

What pots do you like in a super-strat with one humbucker and two single-coils 500k or 250k? (You probably said in guitar wiring 101 - I forget).
@MADMALKOКүн бұрын
i think 500k , my current thoughts are the 250s kill the treble, its easier to tame extra treble with a tone knob than it is to try and brighten a muddy sound.i keep meaning to mess about with resistors, a push pull pot could coil split a bucker and at the same time run the 500k pot in paralell with a 500k resistor - that should make the pot a 250...in theory..i think. was a bad thing having 250s in this bass - the 500s were much much better- so much more punch so its 500s in a p bass fo me!
@ScottfromBaltimoreКүн бұрын
@@MADMALKO thanks! I wonder how a resistor in parallel with a pot might affect its taper. I tried a few with inconclusive results. But if my math is right, it's R1 x R2 / (R1 + R2), which would make it 250 at one end and 167 mid way?

I just put a bean bag under the nut and another under the last fret, frets facing down, and kneel on the back of the neck. You get a sense of feel and no risk of denting the neck.

Got an ERG 121C, thats it in my profile pic after I painted it and I love it, paid £30 for it. Way better than my Pacifica 312II that I got for £50. Now I can't understand all the hype about how good Pacifica's are when the ERG is so much better all round, maybe I should try another Pacifica (or maybe I should get out more🤣) Cheers for another great video.
@MADMALKO2 күн бұрын
hmm id have thought the pacifica 312 should be better... unless you dont like the neck profile, i wonder if it needs a bit of a setup..in saying that the erg is a fantastic guitar, theres nothing wrong with this erg121c but it does have a few chips etc and i figured i could "upgrade free" to get the new one which is in better condition, has gold parts inc. better tuners but mainly for the vastly superior painted black headstock! - rock on!

If you want to catch a great version of Midnight Rambler (apart from Get Yer Ya-ya's Out), then you should try when Mick Taylor re-joined the Stones for their anniversary tour in 2010. He used to do that or Can't You Hear Me Knocking? with them every night and the difference in quality between that and the rest of their performed songs was major. He really made them up their game and it's a shame he wasn't around for longer, but that's Jagger for you.
@edwardhodgkinson3902 күн бұрын
The Stones' She's A Rainbow was probably all down to Keith because he could play piano... I heard this morning that John Mayall had passed away on Monday. He was 90. I know he'd had a good run, but it's still sad because it's another of the older founding musical generation who has gone.

Dirty channel sounds absolutely awesome. Not supposed to be for power chords for metal heads. Its more for 1,2 or 3 strings at a time for some blues or 70's rock it is absolutely awesome. Will never sell it. Huge diamond in the rough. If it had a gibson label it would have been 2k. I love this amp after many years searching. Its fine at home volumes if you have some finesse in your playing.
