The 110v extension lead was a fail as the flap was missing from the female side, meaning it has no IP rating and would be not fit for purpose!

That's really interesting - I always thought PAT meant Portable - so a fixed appliance such as a cooker or a coffee machine was not part of that testing regime.
@BrevTech3 ай бұрын
i'm confused why you had to reach underneath to find a good earth spot on the coffee machine. There are metal panels all over it, so surely they are the biggest risk to the user and hence they should be well earthed?
@damiandeadbeats4 ай бұрын
a coffee machine is plumbed into the building water mains therefore not a portable appliance , so why test it ??

Poor video for a beginner watching! No close ups of the tester settings, no close ups of the wiring inside the socket and when performing an insulation test.

a microwave emissions test... I learnt something today... I have never seen anybody measure this before... It didnt even occur to me that this might be something that can fail. Brilliant video. Top class. Thanks
@afristar6855 ай бұрын
Why would you need to test a microwave for emissions other than to find something to charge the customer for. It's not required in code of practice. And who tests their microwave at home?
@michaelhenry44054 ай бұрын
@@afristar685 For the same reason I check my cars tyres. nobody says I must check them. And after this video I tested my microwave. 1 minute. Either you are not from the UK or you have no idea how H&S regulations work in the the UK. You are required to ensure the equipment is of safe use.

Microwaves, in addition to radio waves and visible light, are all non-ionizing radiation. The only non-ionizing radiation that causes cancer is UV light. So overall, microwave ovens are safe to use and will not cause cancer or any other adverse health conditions

Am I Forced To Plug This Thing Into The Wall To Operates This Pat Testing Device ?

You failed to visually assess the IEC lead, open the casing and check the fuse and connections inside it before doing the electrical test. So not a good example here, moving on..

Please be assured im not questioning your tests but having just started PAT testing i think its interesting to see other professionals (similar to yourself) doing things differently. A couple of other videos show the monitor as one test (cable and lead combined) and similarly the kettle being tested as one unit also. It seems there are areas of testing that seem to be grey! Great video thank you for posting.

First thing I would have done before testing is to inspect the cable and plug , fuse etc before plugging it straight into the tester

I pushed the probe against the copper on the base of the kettle and it failed ?

Sorry to say but I'm not a fan of you demonstrating poor safe isolation procedures with the use of a volt stick which is not a approved voltage indicator nor did you have any way to check and prove that circuit was dead before you stuck your non insulated screw drives into the terminals... Safety comes first!! I think you demonstrate some other great techniques but you let yourself and others down by not following safe isolation procedures and using the appropriate tools. No one wants to see someone else get injured because they followed your video and use of a volt stick that picks up static voltage and doesn't give a true reading for a dead circuit. Please be careful in the future!

I would like to know your tricks. I have the same tester, but to get to the point of printing the test result I have to plug in the tester to the mains, get through so many steps on the machine, I m just keep typing, pressing buttons... You just plug the cable of the tested device and by pressing twice you have a result within seconds. Would by good to see the display, as somebody mentioned here

When putting the cooler socket back on. Did you do a insulation resistance test in case the cable got snagged by the screw going back in. No you did not you silly boy.

On dead test did you test your tester on a proof tester no you did not you silly boy
@alunroberts1439 Жыл бұрын
On the coffee machine the fail is from the spur socket screw being in a plastic box the screw is not attached to a earth. You need to know you have a good earth such as using a socket tester the probe terminals.
@alunroberts1439 Жыл бұрын
Also on IEC leads check the amp rating of the lead such as 10Amp and check the fuse is equal to or less then.

On the toaster you did to do it on the correct way. You did not push the handle down to engage the internal switch. So you tested it open. Well done.

@tucker35Ire Жыл бұрын
Your hoover shouldn't power up on a class 2 test. It only powers up when you do a earth touch test.

Class 2 touch leakage test with the pat test machine plugged in is only way the appliance will start up/power up.We use same machine and on menu I think you use selection K
