Hi, my 98 tacoma's temperature control switch works, but won't go all the way to the coldest setting...almost but not quite. It does go to all settings the other way, however. How did you even get the panel off to get to everything? Your control panel looks just like mine.

Fix worked on my 98' 4runner. Absolutely a pain to get everything disconnected / reconnected but worth it. Now I don't have to reach under the passenger side dash and move the cable manually 😂😂. Same fix you did, only I used a piece of 5/16" brass bar stock I had laying around instead of the flat stock. Works like a charm. Thanks for the info, I never would've torn into it had it not been for this vid!

Was the knob hard to turn and making a loud clicking noise?
@Brad_English10 ай бұрын
Mine was. Wouldn't turn between hot/cold knob just clicks like it's skipping. You can reach up under passenger side and feel the other end of the cable trying to move, you should be able to push/pull the cable and it will turn the knob. That's what I did for about 2yrs. Finally tackled it today. Works like a charm now. Same exact problem he had.

Dude thank you this vid saved me from letting a shop do the repair! My contacts looked exactly the same and I had the spring problem and that was the hardest part resetting those springs and brushes, I set them and used a strip of tape to hold in place until I got it together and then pulled the tape and it worked perfectly! Soon as I turned the key on and backed out my driveway it locked into 2wd “mine was stuck in 4hi” so that’s all I was looking to do was to get it into 2wd but thanks to your vid I actually have all 3 working as it shoul..thanks 😎

I figured out my problem. I had alot of sand in my gas tank. My cockpit filter had broke in half floating in my tank. I put a small filter in the line that feeds into the carb. If it happens again take your carb out and clean all the sand and debri inside were the needle seats. After i did this never had a problem in about 4-5 years now. Good luck.

Thanks for the upload , very well explained . Actually I've done on my 92 2.4td 4 runner couple days ago . Same issue as yours . Mine was pretty clean , I've just lubricated and clean the electrical parts and tested externally with a 12v motorcycle battery and did work well one side to the other inverting polarities . Now, after install it, I've pressed the 4wd button on the transmission shifter and nothing happened, although the 4wd light stays on in the dashboard. Do you have a tip to follow this situation? Thanks in advance.
@hmongwild Жыл бұрын
Try press and depress and see if you can hear it engaging. If not it could be one of your sensors not telling it to actuate.

@hmongwild2 жыл бұрын
Its for stock tacoma that comes with elockers. You cant operate it unless its in 4x4 low only. This grey wire mod allows you to be in 2x4 4x4 high or low and it will allow elocker to engage. Its a big advantage in some cases. Hope this helps
@tomcruz61552 жыл бұрын
Would this mod work on a 4wd tacoma with an automatic transmission aswell? I just installed a trailgear taco box and for some reason the rear locker will not engage even on 4 low.
@hmongwild2 жыл бұрын
It should work if you have elocker. But if it doesn’t engage in 4 low then im not sure. You can still do the mod it wont hurt anything.

Thanks for the video.... I see what I may of done wrong. Today I hauled on flat bed my 2015 Tacoma to LHM Toyota in Albuquerque, NM. The Tech told me they would have to replace the actuator and shaft, Toyota price for parts $1224.9, in transfer case. Transfer case would have to be dropped, 7 hrs labor and Parts came out to be $2700. Unbelievable! First thing in the morning I am going to check the brushes and contacts. Thanks again!
@hmongwild3 жыл бұрын
You don’t need to drop the transfer case to work on the actuator. Its the black box next to your drive shaft transmission side. Open it up see if your motor works. You can run it up to a car battery wire it either way the motor will run forward or backwards. Move your shaft in and out to see if there’s anything hanging up. Good luck keep me updated.
@redcloud8703 жыл бұрын
Thanks.... that was the dealership, Larry H. Miller in Albuquerque. I worked on it today and check the motor with a small battery. Motor is good. So I reinstalled, twice and now I have determined it's the front actuator. Appreciate your input! Cheers.

Cool. I hope it works out for you. I happened to unhooked the cable that connects to the heater valve on the firewall and left the valve wide open. I was having issues shortly after the video was posted. That cable had alot of resistance. So when you turn it from hot to cold or visversa theres a flap inside the cabin that allows hot air from the coil to enter when you switch it to hot. Then when to cold it closes the flap and not let hot air in. Now my knob is super smooth. Good luck
