I played bass and tuba on the DORE 45rpm "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" This song came out a little later. I left before that recording and was in a great traveling band. Just as well, I loaned him $500. and he never paid me back. No respect for Jr. NONE. I also have 4 songs we recorded at the Warner-Brothers Studio. A great sounding cassette off the sub-master tape Reel. Songs never released. Wonder if they're worth anything. Maybe I can get me $500 back. LOL.

When I was a child, my father used to sing a version of this song to us kids. LOVE Laughton's performance!

My brother David Taylor was associated with all these fellows and I met all of them .. (I was maybe 15). The rehearsals were at quality cleaners, I think. This was long ago. I thought it was just so cool to listen to a band working out.

One of the bands I played in (drums) during teen years. Based in New Bern, N.C. "Animal John" Riggs on Hammond B 3, Marshall Downing, lead, Fender Strat, Emmett Williams, rhythm, Fender Strat, Dickie Burroughs, Fender Jazz Bass, David McFadyen, Ludwig Hollywoods (I still have them). Not our best effort, but a good time. Flip side was House of the Rising Sun.

The verse uses the same tune as "Sweet Violets", which also requires the listener's dirty little mind to fill in the blanks.

As far as I can tell, this was the earliest recorded version that was released in this general time frame. There was a Roy Eldridge/Chu Berry small band session for Decca from Feb 5, 1936, but this didn't come until until Jerry Valburn's "Jazz Potpourri" LP in 1983. If the research is accurate, Fletcher Henderson's band was slaying live with this song starting in January 1936. But somehow they were only the 6th act to get into the studio and record it! (March 27, 1936). Also preceded by Andy Kirk, Bob Crosby, and Benny Goodman.

This track is unfortunately running almost full tone sharp! So is actually playing faster than they were actually performing this piece.

No question this is great, and Edmond Hall is no question the hottest clarinetist in jazz history, but THE recording of High Society is by Kenny Ball on the LP Midnight In Moscow. If you don't believe me, or if you've never heard it, go find it and listen to it, especially through the headphones. It will make your hair stand on end.

This song appears to be a very early version of "The World's Dirtiest Song" or "The Assumption Song" recorded by artists such as Bird & Mcdonald and Vito Petroccitto Jr., the latter of which's version is often mistakenly credited to The Arrogant Worms.

Was this actually released? I'm confused because the only version of Doré 885 I can find online has an instrumental song called "Frankenstein's Laboratory" on the B side (the A side is a comedy version of "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head")

Oh the look on Mr. TEF' s face when Mr. Laughton whistled...my husband thinks I'm ready for an asylum...(I miss good shows like this :( I was around to catch The Carol Burnett show, being born in the late 70's, but barely! One of the biggest reasons why I don't watch tv anymore. It's basically all trash.)
