Bloody fantastic. What memories, watching this program as kid in the 60's, and looking back at those days. Lou, Jack Dyer and Bob Davis (or Die-vess, as it was commonly pronounced back then) arguing over just about everything. And who does a live wood chop these days?

Except for the woeful, endless "musical" howling in the background, this would have been a great movie. The natural sounds of real life are far more dramatic than the musical scribbles and wailing of the professional unemployable musicians - can't they just get a real job instead of torturing an audience with musical soap?

Watched it in the 1980s on the government's TV channel Door Darshan (DD) in India. Loved Hugo Weaving.

Say what you want about VFL Park, but you could always get a cheap seat out there. Nowadays it is a rip off and 'sold out'. Most of the MCG and Docklands is 'reserved' for no shows. Thanks for our tax dollars.

It was very disheartening to hear them both speak about Dustins father and how how was looking forward to seeing his father watch him in the near future play in Australia..and reflecting on what has happened in the past two years. His past few years have dropped he has also had some injuries however I can fully understand what loosing a parent can do to someone in so many ways. Dustin is a very emotional person and his dad was everything to him anc its left a huge void one that I believe has caused him lots of self reflection. Sometimes that can sturr up things that hold someone back. I really believe Richmond especially dimma let the side down all his talk about Richmond being a family Club and what it meant to the Players. Then he leaves his wife and children for a women that worked at the club. Family man my backside.😢

Could never understand why they called it World Wide Of Sports because there wasn't any other sports coverage world wide from what I remember?! Anyhow this is still some real class of TV coverage here where it's unscripted and it looks like genuine fun and uniquely Australian as well?! Don Lane was also the goto guy for any US sports I wanted to follow as well. Shame this show is sadly gone, after 37 years it's still sorely missed sigh...

This game I do recall as a point when Richmond really looked likely to carry on from what they had done in 1994. Their big win over the reigning premier suggested the Tigers would really be genuine premiership prospects against the five “power clubs” of the decade - Carlton, Geelong, Essendon, North and the Eagles. As it was Carlton ran into such form that even had they played as they did going 10-1 in the first half, Richmond would have been unlikely to stop the Blues. Nevertheless, it does strike me that this match really was a peak for the Tigers that would not be equalled over a generally awful quarter century.

Hard to believe they'd have to wait another 37 years to win another flag when they had a side like this. How the wheels fell off so quickly. Should never have sacked the coach 12 months later.

Two observations: with only one field umpire you could get away with much more. Player's gear was simpler and looked better

"Our" game was a game for the free man... The secret??? The dropping/holding the ball rule... The pre 1978 rule was simple... If you had the ball, its holding the ball. If not, its holding the man... Now the umpires are at centre stage involved in micro control... Before the rule change in 78, this rule created forward attacking thinking... Now its ring around the rosie with a Stawell gift gettaway...

Thanks for the upload - in regards to the comments below about DVD or Bluray copies. Am starting a campaign by sending emails to NFSA. They have the originals. Don't think there is much point releasing on Bluray because of low resolution except can have entire mini series on one disc. So DVD would be more than enough for the majority of people. Details for Nation Film And Screen Archive Requested Titles Title - THE CHALLENGE ID - 52133 Access Team NFSA Lets show them there is still interest in this moment from history and people want it for the memories.

I remember the English arrogance about this test series. Australia labelled the worst team to tour England and yet look at the English bowling line up for that first test: Defreitas, Foster, Newport and Pringle. Hardly like facing the West Indies of that era.
