I absolutely LOVE that you mentioned you first heard running up that hill from the placebo cover ! ME TOO! I’ve never heard anyone who had the same experience, I loved placebo and their cover but then years later as an older adult I found Kate and grew an appreciation for her ❤

Her new album is Incredible! She and her brother Finneas put so much into this! I love how 1 track seamlessly flows into another... The music background is inconsistent but that's so cool! Toward the end of the album, it's like all of her music is blended into 1 song... Amazing vocals!

Omg yessss can u plzzzz react to her newest album? She doesn’t get the recognition she deserves bc of her controversial beliefs (nothing too bad just mainly conspiracy theories) but she is truly a pioneer in the music industry

I was obsessed with this album in HS. I remember my friends making fun of me for listening to “Indian Music” (nothing harsh), and if anything it just shows how important she is by bringing so many sounds from non-western cultures to the western audience. MAYA was the first album of hers I listened to though. This one, I remember she released a long mix on SoundCloud to promote the album that you later found out was a mix of most of the instrumentals from the album with some extras thrown in.

I will say I much prefer the A.G. Remix of happy ending to the original. It feels more cohesive to me

What a great reaction! I would say the albums before this are all just as great if not even better. MIA was so forward-thinking and creative with her soundscapes in a way few artists in hip hop really are. She's one of the most underrated innovators imo. Also, LOVE your eye makeup. It's so vibrant 🥰

Maya is easily one of the most influential artists of our time and is really like the female Kanye west if you look into it, seeing how many popular artists such as Travis Scott, Beyonce, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and weirdly Radiohead?? Lol, have all sited her as an influence as well as artists such as Charli xcx, Rosalia, Azalea Banks, Grimes, FKA twigs and basically every modern day alternative artist you can think of has taken some aspect of Maya's music to make it their own, since virtually everything she has released has always been at least 15 years ahead of its time. She's also very remarkable for being able to break through into the mainstream with such an arguably divisive and unique sound, which paved the way and let many alternative artists of today to do the same, especially artists like Rosalia and Charli. Also the middle finger that she gave during her super bowl performance with Madonna actually sparked a massive controversy during that time, where the NFL sued her for 16 million dollars and getting her banned from the united states for a few years since she was deemed as a "Terrorist". That moment is now seen as the second most controversial moment in super bowl history right behind Janet's nipple gate. I also highly recommend you discover Kala, Arular, Maya, and Vicki leeks as well, truly some unique and revolutionary shit.

M.I.A was one of my introductions into indie music back in the days. Those artists you listen to as a teenager thinking how different you are. Maya truly shaped a huge part of my taste in music. Her influence is so underrated yet to be found everywhere. Her album M A Y A is basically an early hyperpop album but let's not forget: M.I.A will always be a rapper.

Wonderful to see this! Fun fact: I danced with her (and a lot of other fans) on stage at a small club concert in Miami when she was releasing her second album. I have photo evidence somewhere, me dripping in sweat and her looking at the camera like a deer in the headlights. 😅 She was still relatively unknown because 'Paper Planes' from that album had not yet blown up. Big hug to you Fern 🤗
