Very nice video. I have one doubt regarding entering data in sample 1 and sample 2 fields under summarized data. Is there any specific guideline to enter data in these fields. I mean, will it affect the p value or other results if we enter data interchangeably. For example in this video 'Sample 1' = 19/36 and 'Sample 2' = 29/85. So, if we enter in sample 1 = 19/36 and in sample 2 = 29/85, can we enter interchangeably. If no, then what is the rule or guidelines for entering these entries. Also how to enter these with single sided and double sided alternative hypothesis. Expecting your response soon. Thank you.

Hi SD-un3ii. If depends if you are doing a one-tailed or two-tailed test. If you were doing a two-tailed test, you can interchange them without any change to the P-value. If you are doing a one-tailed test (in this case we did a right-tailed test) where we are testing whether or not the difference (population 1 proportion) - (population 2 proportion) is greater than zero. If you interchange the sample proportions in a one-tailed test, it will make a big difference. So, you want to pay attention to which sample represents the population that you think has the greater proportion. It does get tricky because if you accidentally interchange them, you can correct for that error by choosing the other one-tailed test option. Does that make sense?

So is the graph with the R^2 value, the regression part of it? And the R-value is the correlation aspect?
@ssnevets
@ssnevets 9 ай бұрын
Hi dr_bookwork R and R^2 are measurements of the strength of the correlation (basically the same one is just the other one squared). If the correlation is strong enough, we can use the regression equation (slope and intercept) to make predictions. If the value of R (and likewise R^2) is low, there will still be a regression equation, but you should avoid relying on it.

This video is extremely painful to listen to. I wish the author had just gotten to the point. I'm going to spend the entire semester listening to 11 Chapters of this person's mumble jumble that I can't imagine anyone is interested in listening to but himself.

Thanks for your videos! This is the one I need to watch, for sure... Sigma unknown! I have a quiz next week on 7.1 and 7.2 Confidence Intervals, Proportion C.I., Estimating a Population Proportion, and Estimating a Population Mean. I'm using a TI-84 for all quizzes and exams..Thanks again, Scott!

I was wondering if you could do this problem? My calculations do not match any of the multiple-choice questions. Use the given degree of confidence and sample data to construct a confidence interval for the population mean was 95. Assume that the population has a normal distribution. Thirty randomly selected students took the calculus final. If the sample mean was 95 and the standard deviation was 6.6, construct a 99% confidence interval for the mean score of all students. My answer is: 91.89 < u < 98.11

Thank you,@@scottstevens9855 It would have been correct if I had sigma instead of a sample standard deviation...as my teacher explained here: Since we don't know sigma but s, you have to use t-distribution instead of z-distribution. Instead of using z=2.58 you should use t=2.75639.

helpful, but now there is a LEFT, CENTER, RIGHT portion to the invNorm function. From what I can tell, it looks like the LEFT one is most commonly used to replicate how the presenter is doing these problems. You can do both invNorm(.9,100,15,LEFT) or invNorm(.1,100,15,RIGHT) to get the 119.22 answer. If you do CENTER you get a range that includes the specific percentage stated of all variables within. i.e. invNorm(0.9,100,15,CENTER) gives us {75.33 and 124.67} at the output. This means 90% of people who take the IQ test will get a score between these two values.
