I am proud to call the Fort Wallace Rodeo my home rodeo and to have had the opportunity to volunteer, participate, and attend for many years. The legacy of the Wallace Rodeo runs deep within our community and among the participants who attend. This rodeo not only celebrates our rich heritage but also showcases our love for animals and the beautiful area we call home. Passing along the traditions and ethics that rodeos embody to future generations is crucial, and the Fort Wallace Rodeo ensures that these values and heritage continue to thrive. Thank you to those who continue to volunteer and make it happen every year. Congratulations on 70 years!

I am a Fort Hays State graduate and 6th Generation Kansan and loved this historical story of Fort Wallace and Thof's Dragon. I also like the beautiful cinematography of that part of the High Planes. For some it looks boring, but I have lived out there for over five years and it grew on you. The sunrises and sunsets are unsurpassed. along with seeing the storms roll-in.

You are correct. But the Scotsman had different ways of saying things and when he pronounced it that way, I thought, well, that's very natural.

This story has been turned into a beautiful children's book that is available at the Fort Wallace Museum. "A Dragon's Tale" includes a fictional little boy named Elliot who lives at Fort Wallace, Kansas in 1867. He is befriended by Dr. Theophilus Turner, who shares the discovery of a real fossilized "dragon" - a plesiosaur who swam in the ancient sea that once covered the Great Plains. "A Dragon's Tale" is written by Marla Matkin and is illustrated by Julie Peterson Shea. The audio book is accessible with a QR code and read by platinum-selling recording artist Michael Martin Murphey. The book is available for purchase from the Fort Wallace Museum for $25; contact [email protected] for ordering information.

I would think that many, many Irish were involved in the building and taming of the vast American frontier. Under Custer’s command of over 600 men, 103 Irish died at the Battle of the Little Bighorn where the native indigenous Indians were fighting for their survival and retention of their culture and way of life like the Irish had fought against the stealing of their lands and the suppression of their language, religion and culture for centuries by the British Empire.

@@fortwallacemuseum4435 Love history, love travel. Ex Royal Navy, retired police officer - think I will visit. Reading the book already now as that episode was brilliant. Quite difficult to imagine what author is describing if not from the same country. Now in my head. . Thof trying to explain that the area was under the sea to those troopers - brilliant. In UK- my Dad tried explaining it to me as I found sea shells at the top of a lime stone cliff in Shropshire, England. Bit confusing at 7 years old. Still is - the enormity of it.

As a son of a Scots immigrant and Highland soldier. I'm impressed with the narration. Dad had family in Kansas and Colorado. We're from County Angus. Some of the early immigrants of the family were in Eastern Colorado not far from the Fort Wallace region arriving about the same time as the Narrator was writing the memoir. I will make sure to visit Fort Wallace Museum.

Excellent! In crafting and as a tribute to the main figures and to the soldiers who protected settlers, imposing advancing law and order, and unity, and a great snapshot of this explosion of migration, final settlement and technology between the Civil War and World War I. The events in this story took place only a few decades before the electric car, the telephone and human flight. Too little has been written or portrayed cinematically of the protective warriors of pioneering American civilization.
