File this under "dumb and dumberer".... I (WHITE, middle aged) lived there out of necessity in the 90s for about 1 year (when the area was economically and socially much more challenged) and survived just fine with the exception of some (rare) racist (yes, exists) experiences like women rolling eyes at me in the laundromat. That is as bad as it got... NOT A GHETTO.

This area is NOT dangerous. There are tons of teens, older women and men shopping. There is also a plethora of restaurants and school children going to and fro. Pizza, Beef Patties, White Castle, Wendy's...

That white castle & wendy's is gone. Only WC in jamaica is on hillside ave & the nearest wendys down by queens blvd.
@davicool4284
@davicool4284 4 ай бұрын
@@jjmcg9184 there's a white castle on Springfield Blvd in the Hollis Queens Village area. I haven't been through Jamaica in a couple years but I can imagine the carnage of the people there who are mentally destitute. The good news is that the Asian Indians are coming through and buying up homes and commercial stores thereby transforming the neighborhood. Rents will eventually rise and those there without an education or a plan will be forced to leave. Welcome to America.
@jjmcg9184
@jjmcg9184 4 ай бұрын
@@davicool4284 i know where that WC is & the asians arent buying it up like that. Some yes but not like you described. Plus, why do you see that as a good thing? Rents rising is actually a bad thing because obviously homelessness will rise also. You sure are a nice guy, arent you?
@davicool4284
@davicool4284 4 ай бұрын
The original inhabitants left the area in the 1950s for greener pastures. Those that came later during the 1970s + 1980s when crack hit ran it into the GROUND. Now the Indian wave is here buying homes and establishing businesses. The previously mentioned homeowners who bought homes 50-40-30 years ago can now SELL and make a killing Especially if you're over 55 and don't have to pay a corporate gains tax! Now the neighborhood will be improved and flourish. Would you want your mother getting off the train alone at 179th street alone 10 or even 5 years ago at night? Those who lived and there and didn't take education or a career path seriously will be lost. Life is not a dress rehearsal... And nice guys always finish last.

I always go to the Kowloon hotel when in Hong Kong, I love it. I travel a lot for work so I am there a few times a year. I was once there for my birthday, after a day at the office, I returned back to my room to find the kitchen staff had made me my own birthday cake, it was a lovely touch.

Wow; whom ever told u all the negative shhh that u repeated are just like the people I've met in airports that have been warned by their people that black people are dangerous(not true); mind u they have never been to the destination (all categorizing). As for the men calling to you, they probably found u out of place, different &/or attractive with all the makeup and wig on. Anyway jamaica ave has always been safe place & right now upgrading. U put iN a blog selfish & negative info that could deter others from visiting or relocating. U said u might come back I say don't just do a blog about not listening to other people & keeping ur shady opinions ²yourself. Stick to getting info from the young explorers on tic toc ur to old & cloned posh for blogging your fake look is a turn off from the beginning of your blog. That's me being honest . Your arrogant! And I'm just being honest . Buy the way look at ur views for the year..

You don’t know what ghetto is in NYC. That’s not the ghetto. “Down and out people” can be on Park Avenue in Manhattan. This is a very unique area. You have your upper middle class to low- income residents. This area is the hub for Queens where you will find a lot of municipalities, LIRR, luxury apartments, middle class living, etc. It’s not an unsafe area. If you want more of a ghetto feel, try shopping in Pitkins Avenue in Brooklyn.

Remember, I'm British. This area was very different for me, and I felt uneasy. The second to last time I was there I actually witnessed a robbery right in front of me in Soho. I like NYC but you do have to keep your eyes open as I feel anything can happen any time.

Older than the Roman Empire and still behave as if they are discovering the hot water. Have contributed nothing to civilization in their entire existence Nobody will miss them when they go extinct Trash people

You wanna do Flatbush, Brooklyn if you want a "rougher" shopping district...Jamaica's actually kinda tame whereas Flatbush keeps the cops real busy. And don't pay the haters any mind -- I bet they're the same types who get upset when the teacher gives their kids a bad grade LOL XD

I stayed here last November for 5 nights on an anniversary trip with my girlfriend. It was actually our first time staying anywhere in Brooklyn. This hotel has excellent front desk/restaurant service, is centrally located near shopping/entertainment/metro stations, has great pool facilities and room space. The beds are so comfortable and the rooms are huge for NYC. It felt like staying in the Midwest where we live. My girlfriend and I have been used to staying in Manhattan in NYC -- we normally stay at the two Intercontinental hotels in Midtown or the Holiday Inn/HI Express hotels in Chelsea/Financial District/Wall Street -- but we were blown away by how much extra value you get for the price at the Holiday Inn Brooklyn Downtown. As a lot of people correctly review that the AC units usually cause deep congestion. This was the only room for improvement. We experienced this on our first night here. Maintenance or Housekeeping, idr, came and wiped it down and it was fine. I worked the front desk at a Holiday Inn for 3 years during college -- and I can tell this property is very well-managed. You can just tell when the attention to detail and staff communication is there. HI Brooklyn Downtown delivers more value than any other $180 to $200 standard rate IHG hotel that we've ever experienced. Granted, our expectations were low because in NYC, real estate in general is a very high price for almost 0 square footage, and the city is so packed that you get service that leaves a lot to be desired in most public places. IHG/Hilton/Marriot also tend to have skeleton crews even in 50-floor hotels. But this property is different, we love this place and we'll be back someday.
