In addition, you can't get online and there's no way to invite friends to demonstrate in a car, driver and co-pilot like at a rally. Because that's important, just at a speed of 140 km h and looking at 8 weather graphics at the same time is impossible.

I can't use the map in 2D. I am lost. Need to turn several times 90° to figure out where the curser actually is. To drive the buggy while listening to science fiction audio books is worth the money alone.

I need elite dangerous travel/fighting/mining mechanics, with the x4 universe, ship and base building mechanics plus lore and eve/dust online scope. In VR. With the ability to cosplay as firefly. I know there all doing there own thing but how bout they team up like some developers did for dishonored and all-star bests of gameplay approach the crossover installment.

I had trouble getting much information from your video because like so many others that make these videos, you we moving the mouse real fast. I tried pausing to get some information, that helped. The other thing is you spent more time in the large area view so the track couldn't be seen I was watching because I thought I might find out if one needs crossovers with 2 track lines. As a huge meteorology nerd and someone who lives in the heart of tornado alley and eats this shit up, I couldn't buy this game fast enough when I found it. I have a pretty fast PC, so while the performance is irritating, it's mostly tolerable. What is really pissing me off most about the game is what the name of it infers "Outbreak." I don't know if it's just bad luck on my part, but I usually get only one or two briefly lived tornadoes over the course of a chase, maybe 3 with one long lived one if I'm particularly lucky. In the Midwest, we do not call 2 or 3 tornadoes an "outbreak", we call that "Tuesday". It feels like less of a tornado chasing simulator and more like a "drive an infuriatingly crappy econobox around in some mild rain and wind" simulator. I had so much hope for this, on paper it's the game I've wanted FOREVER.

While I agree with most of what is said here, I will say the empty rolling fields of nothing make me feel right at home. This is exactly what this part of the world looks like, for better or worse. Now, the graphical fidelity on the other hand needs some work, but as far as the actual basis of the graphics go, its pretty damn realistic.

The weather was fully created and simulated on what is essentially a supercomputer the dev had to rent (not cheap) It was then translated using a custom made tool (by the dev) so it could run visually and within the engine. Its a long expensive process to do which is why there are limited scenarios, but every single one of them is an exact simulation. All the data, locations, speeds, heights and radars are so accurate they could be used in the real world. its a miracle that it even runs on a high spec PC at all. I'm sure it will get better but there are so many calculations that goes into every tiny little detail, you wont be running this on a toaster like doom.

Only thing I really fully agree with is the bad performance (which I think is basically unavoidable with realistic weather simulations) and crap graphics. Of course it's also buggy, but I expect that from a game that just released. Other than that the game seems pretty much perfect. Although I've noticed you run out of gas insanely fast, which is weird considering the distances you travel to chase are relatively accurate to real life. So you'd think the gas would be closer to real life too, although of course not fully like real life, because then you wouldn't have to refill even once. The gas seems annoying. I think the environment is very realistic and the fact that real-world knowledge applies fully to this game is AMAZING. The biggest problem gameplay-wise for me is that, since the storms are so realistic, it's not really possible to simulate them randomly in real-time. So you don't get randomly generated storms. Which means it'll be an amazing game the first time you encounter storms, and probably for a while after as well so you can re-explore and spot things you didn't before, but once you've explored it all it won't really be replayable anymore. Of course replayability is not necessary for any game, but it's always a huge plus.

As someone who has literally DREAMT of being a real storm chaser but doesn't have the time, budget, or vehicle, yet plays a lot of video games, I'd say this is a solid SIMULATOR. The gameplay honestly is realistic in terms of reading a radar, and really feeling like a storm chaser. I would wait to say anything about performance/graphics until the real game comes out, and even then its supposed to be a realistic open-world sim. I have the worst laptop, with the qualifications not even meeting minimum, and was able to have a little fun on the single player (al beit constant lag not usual for the device). Currently, if you have a stronger pc I would actually highly recommend this sim if you love weather and geek out like me! Do the graphics look pretty bad right now? Absolutely! Does the game lag and spike sometimes? For sure! But that doesn't mean they aren't trying. Right now I believe (and have seen after the updates) they are focusing in the main objective before graphics---making it a working game. In addition, many of the early game/sim testers are weather nerds and chasers alike, and they (the developers) really want their input to make it as real as a simulator as they can. In my personal opinion I would rather sacrifice graphics if I can have an otherwise realistic chasing experience using real radar and no lag spikes, especially since the developers have actually been listening to the testers!!! (Sad that its rare). You are completely entitled to your opinion, no h4te here! I myself would just wait until 1.0 to start bashing it, as you don't know what the future holds, and have found it to be worth the $35. Pokemon Scarlet on the other hand...

This vid made me pick up Elite in VR again. It's the only game that I really come back to now and then just to experience the wonders of space.

I stopped playing ED after Frontier announced that they stopped supporting VR.

In Unreal I literally coded my own rudimentary mission-generator that stitches elements of that particular instance quite nicely...and I'm a relative novice. Obviously online makes it more complicated, I don't see why they couldn't add something similar into ED for long-term appeal. To me, that would make the game worth investing a lot of time into, instead of it being an overall grind. I would be wholeheartedly happy playing ED in VR or even 2D...if they would spend some time on making actual meaningful, story-based missions. I had kind of hoped that's what Odyssey would introduce, though there were never any indications that's what they were wanting to do. I kind of get a decent amount of the reasons they didn't do full VR for Odyssey (first-person motion sickness, performance due to higher poly-counts for architecture & areas, etc) -- but it did hurt the game as far as it continuing to receive praise and expansion buys.

Use ovr toolkit to put your api webpage somewhere in your cockpit. Or yt when on a long travel.. I did stop using vr when odyssey release. And when to the next best thing. Tobii. The scariest think I did in vr was supercruising to a planet and land on it.

After I bought Odyssey, they announced they would not be committing to VR, I no longer had any interest in ED. I absolutely loved it in VR.

Several fanboys in the comments I see. I don't know what they see, but what I see is a load of garbage. The graphics are shameful to start with, the textures are shameful and I agree with all the points raised in the video. It could be a good game for sure, however at $35 price tag this game is going to be review bombed and then it will die. You can not price an early access game at a $35 price point when it looks like that, its just not good enough. Unfortunately its priced to fail and will join all the other abandoned early access titles. Advice - if you are not a graphic artist(and clearly the dev/devs are not) then hire one ffs!!! at least make it look decent while you iron out the programming side. If you cant afford to hire one, then maybe you did not have the budget to commence work on a $35 title in the first place - you cant just knock any old shite together in your bedroom and charge that sort of money. Period.

It's all down to David Braben, he was always lukewarm about VR. He overthinks everything, and so does his team. So although they had a great VR game, they developed it as a 2d game. The gunner feature is a perfect example. I was expecting a Star Wars laser turret and we got an EVE online turd. They banned me from their forum in the end for complaining about it.

I miss the old caves they were so much fun like all interconnected and actually scary and really creative and so much fun with friends and the old map keeping track of which caves youve been in with bases at entrances and actually having to map out the old caves snd remember them spending 30 minutes to an hour in some caves being so big. And yeah i agree with the story its very vague with the clues like the first one but the first one had some level of where to go and the clues were cool and the story was way better i feel they rushed this game. And just some little things here and there they couldve kept from the old game like i miss all the different animal meats and hides. And dynamite for exploring further into the caves

I am a hardcore simulator fans. You have definitely missed out Train Sim World 4, Ship Graveyard Simulator (1 & 2), Thief Simulator (1 & 2). Also, Airport Sim and House Flipper are great as well.

Fun video! One underrated element of playing Elite in VR is that you don't actually need to look at the panels to raise them, you can make it so they only come on with a button press (it's a setting you can change in the menu if anyone reading this didn't know; I use the same binding as I'd use in pancake mode to bring the panels up), which means you can interact with the panels while flying without even looking at them (like, requesting docking without ever looking at the panel, and other stuff like that). Plus in VR I am alwayyyss looking all over to enjoy the view, and it bugged me that the panels would blip on because my head turned their direction. This also means you can keep a panel up and still fly like normal, which is nice when waiting for something to pop up on the targeting panel or when messing with synthesis while in a dangerous situation. For the Galaxy Map, I bound all controls to my flightstick and with practice it became as quick and easy as using a mouse in pancake mode (though I obviously agree the VR experience with the Galaxy Map should be a lot better). Basically I just fly the cursor to my destination, and if ya zoom out and then move the cursor then I cover ground quickly (and zoom back in for finer control). Ultimately after 3000 hours playing Elite in VR since 2015 (started on a DK2), I have a love/hate thing going with the game due to all the wasted potential. After all these years, I think the few devs they have working on the game just aren't into space-sims and barely play the game (and with what Frontier pays they might not be getting the cream of the crop), and I have no faith that anything good will ever be added in the future after the debacle of Odyssey. Still, the game is an amazing deal on sale and an awesome VR game, especially if someone sticks to Legacy/Horizons and avoids Odyssey completely (it still amazes me how badly they botched this game with Odyssey). So I recommend the game to new VR users all the time, but I can't see myself ever buying anything from Frontier ever again.

Im actually going tornado chasing next year, weather permitting. Bought the radar software, downloaded the radar apps, cameras, etc. Myself and two others are going. We're gonna do several dry runs before we go, to familiarize ourselves with GPS and navigation. But, I can't wait to go. Ive been reading meteorlogy papers on storms and severe weather, like its the last information I'll ever read. 😂

I just got my reverb g2 and i must say elite looks amazing in it. The map howerver. Being it system map or galaxy map.. It makes me cry. The controls are awful. I cant for the life of me figure out how to select/deselect something consistently. Sometimes it works and i think i figured it out to find out it wont work next time. Also, i noticed that quite often the game either crashes or WMR closes the game after i take off the headset for a few seconds. Not always, but it does most of the time. This makes looking things up online a pain in the ass when playing the game in VR. Is this normal or is there some setting i can change somewhere to change this?
