That refurbished trailing arm is a thing of beauty. I'm used to working on bicycles, so the wheel bearing you pressed in seems humungous by comparison!

Ian my brother has a super long socket extension with a locking device on the end. It is made by Matco. You can use it to disconnect the cv joints from the transmission while sitting on A stool outside the car.

Nice video, but you stopped one step short of what I was looking for. ;) Did you replace the fuses? If so, did you use the original style or upgrade to the enclosed glass vial type?
@IanKarr

Thanks. I stayed with the original torpedo style. The only upgrade I’m aware of is the JWest blade type fuse box.

The chrome trim on mine is coming loose on the top near that center clip. Trying to decide whether to remove and reinstall (without bending anything?!?!) or find an alternate way to hold it down up there. Thoughts?
@IanKarr
@IanKarr 13 күн бұрын
Best to get some butyl (sold as 3M strip caulk) and use it to tack down. It may just popped out of the clip so you could also try snapping it back in by rapping it with the soft side of your fist

For irridium spark plug manufacturers suggest the pre gapped ones and buy according to your car vin or rego number , not any random of them and then try to gap them as gapping iridium is not good.
@IanKarr

If you can find em pre-gapped, great. As long as no damage is done to the plug, I don’t see the harm.

Ian, I have enjoyed all your videos. I was curious if you were going to be posting a driving video with your thoughts on the performance of the car. I am in the process of tearing down my 2.0L and will be split the case tomorrow. I am considering the same modifications with an increase to 2257 and a mild WebCam 00472. I have not ordered those components yet until I have seen the condition of my internal components. Thank you again for all the great information. Steve

@@IanKarr For the record: I've removed the 6 circular clips that seemed to hold the thing together. Then the part where the motor sits in just splits in halve. After that it's easy to take both valves/flaps including the connecting rod out and back in again. Good moment to attack the flaps with some rustoleum and paint as well!

I dont think much people know how to use the round gap tester. Dont use the the ascending ramp to gap, only to measure, to gap the plug use the hole in the tool that is what it is for.
@IanKarr
@IanKarr Ай бұрын
True. but the nature of that scale means at least some wedging is happening. I find the hole creates way too much torque and it's difficult to get things to open up by just a few thou.

If the bottom of the crankcase is tilted, there will be oil left on the low side. Can you use ramps? Yes, but probably about 25% of the oil will be left in there.

White Spirit / Mineral Spirit is a solvent and one of the things that chemically damages rubber so should never be used (unless you can immediately clean it off with something else, and it's not easy to clean off; and which in turn can be even more damaging to rubber); it will both expand rubber and leach polymers, from any rubber it comes in contact with.
@IanKarr
@IanKarr 2 ай бұрын
The quick exposure and immediate rinse I used shouldn’t have done any damage. If concerned, don’t do it. Or at least use a clean paper towel to wipe it down after. If the towel is clean white, highly doubtful any rubber has been compromised.
