The reason I know was that I did the 1st ascent of that pitch in 1976. Originally, I only had placed 3 bolts. In the late ‘90s I replaced them and then added a fourth to split the final runnout to the ledge. Think about how far that would’ve been for you go without the fourth bolt!

why would you bounce it off the wall? you dont know where it will bounce, or what its going to knock loose.
@jannikehret

Removing it in a controlled way while climbing on an off-season day with low traffic is better than someone accidentally pulling it with inattentive people below. Not sure what you mean with “why would I bounce it” that’s just what happens when a rock falls down a rock face.

@@jannikehret i understan that the idea behind trundling is to remove the loose rock in a controlled manner. What I am saying is that if you tossed the rock out further you would have had more control over where it lands. when that rock hits the face you have no idea what direction it will bounce, how many pieces it will shatter into, what it will know off the wall, etc. Im just being nitpicky, bc that is what the internet is for LOL

@@waltermiller6614That’s a big ass rock that he is throwing while hanging with one hand on a vertical face, it’s not exactly easy to do.

That is scary that there are loose "rotten" rocks up there... 😮

I was fearful for you on the start of the face pitch - you were way off route to the right. The route steps right of the belay ledge only a few feet, then straight up to the first bolt. ‘Glad you pulled it off.

That makes sense. It felt way more "exciting" than anything else on the route.

You guys didn't do any of nutcracker. Looks like you started on After Seven, then did After Six with the 5.8 finish. Sure you had a similarly good time though!

That makes sense. Constantly felt like we were rolling the dice between at least two other variations of a similar climb. But no complaints here although I do wish we would have gotten to do the Nutcracker mantle. Thanks for the insight!

@@shadowpanther298 if you're doing a lesson your instructor will be able to give you all the tips you need. For outdoor climbing, I would recommend always using a guidebook or mountain project to get info on the route. Finding the base of the route and how to get back down (for multi-pitch climbing) is always more of an issue than expected. Get a Grigri or auto-breaking belay device. People will argue that lead belaying is safer with an ATC or equivalent because you can give slack easier but it's not worth trading for the extra safety. Plus less dirty hands!

Good catch. This route was far from a straight shot up. We also linked pitches which always makes rope drag a bigger issue. They are by no means a necessity on a route like this but made the journey much more comfortable.

@jannikehret oh I see so there helpful if the route sways. I saw your epinephrine vid, what would you rate the climb out of 5, any tips?
@jannikehret
@jannikehret 6 ай бұрын
@@RatedRTV yes exactly. And big multi pitch routes usually do. 5/5 for epinephrine! The chimney pitch is the crux on that one. I would recommend bringing some extra big pieces since that section is hard to protect. The rest of the route is comparatively easy. Also, study the walk off. Very easy to get lost even with all the info on mountain project / guide book.
