Wauw, JewTube's comment censoring is really getting out of hand. 15 attempts to get the fucking comment to remain in place. @Lance Rothman 1. Doesn't matter if only Donald Trump makes the Camry. What's not said is not said, no matter what you think about it. And if you think you know every single car made on the planet, even single-made home examples; you're obviously too dumb to even have an opinion. Dumbass. 2. No one gives a shit about your "opinion" as long as you lack the intelligence to even have one. Dumbass. 3. Where did I say that? Saying A doesn't automagically include B as a rule of thumb. Except you posting a shit comment means you're a dumbass. Dumbass.

You can see he shifted to second just as it got to redline. That shouldn't have blown it up. Something was weak in the motor and it let go at high rpm. They wouldn't have shifter that could be manually shifted if doing so caused this. The engine almost for sure has a rev limiter anyways. All the people who know nothing about vehicles commenting that low gear caused it to blow. Lol

So many people complaining about the use of first gear aka low, we had just bought a 99 Camry with 179k, and the transmission decided to let go, it wouldn't stay engaged in gear and you would have to redline in first for it to even move, unfortunately someone didn't ever change the fluid in that transmission

@@NapoleonDynamite69 Toyotas reliability is unparalleled, I've owned an Es300 and currently have a Camry (I wouldn't own anything else at this point because of their quality). That said, maintenance is key, a lot of people think they can just neglect them and not change their fluids every so often because of their reputation. Changing oil, coolant, transmission fluid, etc. goes a long way.

your problem wasn't oil starvation. it's the fact that the threaded part on the rod is much too small to be reliable at 6,300 rpm. the 5sfe wasn't designed to be revved that high. a brand new 5sfe would do the same. hell, if you rebuilt a 3sgte with 5s rods (I think they're the same size, apart from the small end hole that the wrist pin goes through is smaller) it would do it then, too.
@neonreign2988
@neonreign2988 3 жыл бұрын
Toyotas make solid engines, but I have no clue why anyone would redline 0-60 in low gear in the first place! I had over 200,000 miles on my old es300 and 190,000 (3.0 L v6) on my current Camry. I definitely don't think it was a design flaw either, I agree with your sentiment.
@kotymccallister5150
@kotymccallister5150 3 жыл бұрын
@@neonreign2988 yeah, it just wasn't designed for it. They've built bulletproof engines that can, think the 4age, 3sge, 2zzge etc. But this wasn't a performance engine lol. The 5sfe is a perfectly good economy engine. And as long as you aren't spinning it so fast the rod caps let go, it'll last damn near forever.

One time i brought second to redline the entire car shuddered hard and struggled to shift. long story short probably not safe to rev higher than intended. I still do it so not much room to talk, but i shift right before 5k every time and the shifts are smooth. your engine probably spun a bearing and blew because you reved it out with stock internals, tc, valve body.

thweepz , +PeterGriffin4200 The 5SFE is an extremely reliable engine. The causes of most problems seem to be; running out of oil and overheating (due to lack of maintenance) and extreme hot rodding. In my case it was hot rodding, it may have been lack of oil although it didn't leak oil, Could have been low on oil, whether that may have been or not, it was bad on my end as I didn't check the oil first thing before I drove it. ANOTHER thing is, after this happened, I was told by an ex-Toyota salesman that the connecting rod failure is a known problem for the '99 Camry 4 cyl.

No matter what engine it is, of its not maintained properly it won't last. You also have to consider that there can be manufacturing errors every so often.

This car & engine was elderly owned and meticulously maintained by my great-aunt, then my grandparents then my father with airtight proof of service records on it before I had it but it had a recall and manufacturer defect on the cylinder one connecting rod where the nuts were not tightened to torque specifications leading it to grenading under a hard load.

Low gear is 1st gear, you can hold the rpm’s higher if you manually have it in first gear and then manually shift to second

Thinking because u had it in L or low, meaning more for pulling or uphill not for using it as a 1st gear launch then trying to power shift it into second that’s what did it 😂😂👍🏼👍🏼

The problem was your piston. It went through your motor because you floored it. When you speed give a small rev to get the pistons moving safely. What happened was your piston crashed into your motor because of the preasure. Killing the engine.
