Love Jill! I was her color assistant on Joker and Doctor Sleep! Such an amazing source of information and craft.

No way! Were you allowed in the room when she came finished it or were you asked to leave?

@@KaceyBakerFilms I had to prep the room and Resolve bays for her in all the different formats (Dolby Vision, P3 D65, and Rec709), update all the updated edits with her grade, apply all the final composites and titles, and export the deliverables. Then, I had to watch them down to make sure they were correct. I watched the Joker files before they were sent off to be printed on film for the Cannes screening, which was three months before it premiered worldwide. Actually worked on a lot of films with Jill. She’s one of the best. Always willing to answer questions or chit chat.

Thanks. Smart colorist - its an art. And one question about the Voyager LUTs. If I use power windows and/or halation, where are they placed with respect to the LUTs and CST node. I use CST in and out instead of color managed by DVRs

Glad you like this one! I generally advise halation immediately to the left of your look, and grading (including windows) to the left of that.

Boring. Not a hater but I want to see the action inside resolve. As colorists you’ll never get better unless you experiment or learn new techniques. I had to learn all my techniques the hard way. Not watching people talk about color grading.

Hmmm, have to disagree with you here...I've learned a ton from conversations like this one. You're right that there's no substitute for time spent grading, but it's just as true that there's no substitute for the right principals. Jill reveals several such principals even in this short clip...
