When I saw this as a punk teenager in the 90s, the dad stood out to me most. I thought "this is what a Marine is all about?" The dude had his business and was a big dude and would chew your ass for the right reasons. Always respected that character.

I grew up with an army dad and know about being strict and rules. But I'm better for it now. I learned a lot about respect and morals. Plus, he taught me how to work on cars. I'm always thankful for his teachings.

Love the comments here. My dad was Jehovah’s Witness and that was fucked up but he taught me real world lessons that I’ve used and never forgotten. He must’ve been so conflicted, trying to teach bullshit bible crap while knowing how the real world works.

I love the respect Cruz and miklo show for Cruz’s padre. They refrain from laughing and look at the ground, Cruz tells quantio to be quiet. Miklo turns his back on paco when he disrespected his elder. Love it, wish I wasn’t a shit when I was a kid

Milko also grew up in a abusive household (heavily implied from mentions in the movie of his father's nature). He's seen the wrath of an angry father perhaps and could be turning away realizing what could be coming, trauma and all.

I think Miklo was based off of the original boss of LA Eme peg leg Morgan. Who was a white Croatian immigrant who grew up in East LA and embraced the Chicano culture.

I never noticed that lol. I knew Miklo kept himself out the way when Mano checked Paco, but I never realized how quickly he walked away and knew that Mano didn't play like that. He's showing respect for his elders too.

I just bought and watched this for 5 bucks. I liked it-interesting perspsective on the Chicano culture of the 70-80s era. Some of the culture seems to exist even today.
