Finally someone who see's my point of view, thank you. I have actually been mocked numerous times for showing the real life struggles instead of editing them out. I figure it's better to show this in case my viewer encounters the same problems, that way he/she can see it's not just them and push forward. Thank you for the support, very much appreciated.

Instead of the chain to hold the hub from turning,put everything back together and drop a screwdriver down in the cooling fins of the rotor. It will come around and hit the caliper so you can torque your cv nut. great video!

Finished up on my 2002 explorer front bearing, you can push back the drive axle,and you can use a socket. Cut your wheel left or right to get all 3 bolts. All four tie rods,now rear brakes,great fun eh! Happy Saturday 🇨🇦

Ya, I beat on my wife’s 2002 sport trac for awhile too. Found that a couple sizes of cold chisels worked pretty good to separate the hub... enjoyed watching you bring out every tool in your arsenal, specially the claw hammers....and one more tip, loosen the axle nut before lifting the vehicle should make it easier.

Hey brotha, just did it on my 03 Aviator. Same front end. Since they gave me new bolts and I had a new hub, I threaded the old bolts in about 4 threads, turned the wheel hard to the left, about 6 good shots each with my small sledge and it was out. Wen't back together fast. Thanks for the video.

Thanks! This video was excellent. Just did it on my 2009 (same suspension and platform). After watching your video though, I'm super happy that I don't have a 4x4. @Todd82TA
@Todd82TA 3 жыл бұрын
Also... that sucks how hard it was for you to get that hub off. I was lucky, my car had absolutely no rust. When I used my impact gun on the three hub bolts... the hub just fell out like it was nothing. I almost feel bad saying that after all the effort you had to do to get that off. Was it stuck to the inner knuckle hole? Had it just rusted shut to it? I greased mine too... but there was enough clearance that the hub was loose in there until I secured it with the bolts. Man... I've been there before with other stupid projects... what a pain in the butt. Thanks again!
@BuckeyeBallistics

Yeah it was just tight in the knuckle hole, which is usually the case. They're typically not loose enough to just "fall out," you got lucky lol.

@@BuckeyeBallistics Hahah... I know... I love this car. It had 47k miles on it when I got it, but it spent a lot of time sitting in a garage. @BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics 3 жыл бұрын
Weird for it to fail at only 47k miles
@Todd82TA
@Todd82TA 3 жыл бұрын
@@BuckeyeBallistics Yeah, I thought so too... you can tell all around the inner ring / race, it looks like grease has squeezed out, which picked up dirt and grime. It would grind when going around a turn, started to sound like a helicopter was flying over. The car is a 2009, and with under 50k miles, it spent a good portion of it's life in South Florida just sitting in a garage. So I'm wondering if having it sit like that caused the problem...

Just had mine done on my 99, west coast Explorer. I got the Moog too, didn't want to cheap out. The mechanic had it done in an hour no rust involved. $200 labor here in Cali. You could have tried to pull the hub off by putting the tire back on and busted loose the axle nut with the tire still on the ground and the same to re torque it.

Btw, for future, welding supply and places like it, or online order, you can use a set of "banana wedges" instead of having to tap or beat with a hammer.. as a Pipe Fitter I use these to open flanges to replace gaskets.. if the space is wider I include a thicker wedge as a base.. hope this makes sense
@BuckeyeBallistics

Thanks for the lesson. My sister just called to tell me the right front bearing is bad on her 05 explorer.$450 estimate. Did you change the hub because of the broken stub? Or was it a combination of stud and bearing? I'm 60yrs old now and been tinkering with cars since I was in high school. 90% of the time, i get surprised by working on family and friends cars. Slide hammer for pulling dents helps a lot. And also, without raising the wheel,could you take center wheel cap off to get to axle nut to loosen without pulling off the wheel? Put wheel back on, lower back down to ground and torque axle nut without the use of chains. I'll let you know how it goes this Saturday. Thanks again. You've boosted my confidence.
@BuckeyeBallistics

See if I can remember... 8, 14, 15mm sockets. 15mm combi wrench. 1/2 and 1” cold chisels. Small sledgehammer. 1/2” drive breaker bar. Believe a 1 1/4” socket works on the axle nut. And a decent pry bar. Small flat screwdriver to undo clips but not required. Jack and axle stand. Torque wrench good for about 180 ft/lbs. also your favourite penetrating spray and I used copper coat reassembling it. That should cover it..... oh, and a wire brush... and a few beers.

Rather than using an impact gun to undo, and chaining it up to re torque the hub nut, it could be possible to do it up snug, replace the brake and wheel, then if your wheel has a removable cap in the center, either have a helper stand on the brake to hold it while you torque it, or lower it so the tire is on the ground with the car in park with the parking brake on. No chains required then..

I mean I know what I'm doing, but just to add a little assurance, his has been fine for the past 2 or 3 years since I did the repair. Seems you just had a patch of bad luck.

If you don’t have an impact and do not want the axle to spin then leave the wheel on and then use a breaker bar to break the axle bolt loose. The nut calls for anywhere from around 160lb - 215lb of torque. I just got done doing my sisters but always like to watch videos of other people working,, maybe give some input if all possible. I’m @ 4:44 min into the video and thought I’d add my 2 cents worth.

Skip the PB Bullshit and invest in Free-All. Trying to break free the exhaust intake to pipe gasket, had a mechanic with a ½ breaker bar and a 4' pipe with no results. He was skeptical, but I sprayed that in and let it sit 10 minutes. I SWEAR, they came off with a ½" have ratchet. No joke!

Idk why this is but ford vehicles are always ridiculously crusty with the rust. I've worked on dodge and gm stuff that seen 20yrs of salt in indiana and they arent even half as crusty as ford stuff lol I don't get it

@@BuckeyeBallistics no shit haha damn. My dads dodge magnum looks pretty good. It's from the 1st year or 2 they were out so it's pretty old by now not sure of exact year and has 260k+. Still looks decent underneath

Get you a slide hammer like I mentioned in the video and it won't be a nighmare. I laughed like a madman the first time I used mine because the hub I was doing came out on only 2 yanks. I just added the link to the description for the exact one I bought and still use...

Shouldn't have used grease, use anti seize, grease will heat up and melt/wash away.

@@BuckeyeBallistics The bearing face, it makes contact with the vehicle, between the bearing making heat itself and the heat transfer from the brakes, that grease will be gone in a month. If you use anti-seize, it has copper and other metals in the compound, and they remain, making it easy to pull that hub again next time. There will be a next time.

Well if you put it on the round part of the hub, it will spin. If you put it on the lug nut studs, you risk damaging the threads or bending the studs. At least that's how I'm picturing it, maybe I don't understand how you do it. Would love to see a video of your method.

@@BuckeyeBallistics Okay, but all the other videos on doing this suggest--and show--loosening the axle nut with the wheel still on and down on the ground so it won't turn. Same as loosening the lug nuts.
@BuckeyeBallistics
@BuckeyeBallistics 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, with the wheel&tire still on. Mikecarguru said put the hub on a block... that is with the wheel off; the hub is the part containing the lugnut studs and bearing. Yeah, pop the center cap off the wheel if there is one, and losen the axle nut. You can't do that with all vehicles, but I guess on this one you can. But getting the axle nut off wasn't the problem, it was the hub itself, which neither of you are talking about.
