Күн бұрынFirst bell test video of 2024! It's been a while since I uploaded one, but lately things haven't been worthy of filming or I haven't been around when a bell test was conducted. Anyway, here's a mildly interesting system. This was taken at a private school. There are two parts to this building. The original portion of the building was built in 1930 and contained 3 floors (plus a mechanical basement). In 1995, the school was added onto, which is when the EST3 went in. I'm not sure what the original alarms in the old portion of the building were, but sometime between the original system and the EST3 going in, a Simplex 4208 was put in. As you can see, the pull stations in the old portion of the building are 4251-20s (plus a 270A-SPO). The pulls on an entire floor are wired to one circuit and that circuit is hooked up to a module on the EST3. In the newer portion of the building, the pulls are still conventional, but are individually hooked up to monitoring modules, so each pull has its own address. The smokes in the newer portion of the building are the pre-SIGA devices (manufactured by System Sensor). In recent years, (including this past year), upgrades have been done to the system: the vast majority of the sensors (minus the non-restorable heats, and two smokes at the top of the stairs) in the old portion of the building have been upgraded to SIGA devices, and the first floor sensors in the new portion of the building have also been upgraded to SIGA devices. The goal is to replace all of the old devices with SIGA devices, as the old devices are long since discontinued and not supported. Hopefully more devices will be replaced this year.
Meanwhile, as you can see, the signals are Wheelock MT-24-LSMs and the remote strobes are Wheelock LSM-24s. There are also a few outdoor signals not seen. The signals were installed when the 1995 portion of the building was built and signal coverage was extended into the old portion of the building. In this video, I check the first floor of the old portion of the building as well as the basement level of the new portion of the building. Enjoy the noise!

the wheelock mt on continuous was used a lot in my state (texas). i did a fire alarm inspection yesterday at a small daycare consisting of a 90s firelite MS-4 with these alarms and system sensor 2400 series smoke detectors

I've heard a Spectralert advance and Wheelock Mt in person before. From my experience, I would say the Wheelock Mt is Louder than the Advance.

Reminds me of a Hotel that was a old elementary school. It has MTs but on a FireLite system with Wheelock RSs. There is a theater that has Wheelock ET-1070-LSM-24s and a section that has SpectrAlert Advances.

Ah, nostalgic continuous Wheelocks. Wheelock is very popular in my area, and all my schools had them, even my high school which was originally EST mechanical horns but a hodgepodge of different replacements were made instead cause half of the horns died years ago. Most notably though was the elementary school I was in the longest, they had continuous AH horns in the classrooms. Originally would’ve been 7002ts or 34ts. 34ts still remain on the exterior though! I believe my middle school had *most* of their Wheelock horns on continuous as well. These things are true hell on ears.

My highschool that I graduated from had these MTs set to continuous with Siemens ZNSs set to pulse. I feel that schools pain.

This is sort of like the system that was in my High School. It was an EST3 system with Wheelock AS (inside) and AH (outside) devices. All pull stations where conventional Fire-Lite BG-12's but on a monitor module. I did not realize that the EST remote NAC's (or power extenders) supported Wheelock Sync (I assume as there are no external Wheelock sync modules). All devices were in sync and capable of audible silence. The school was built in 1993 so the original EST2 was upgraded to an EST3 in 2007 (the original notifications were Wheelock MT's). Anyways, one of the more unique systems that I've ever seen. Seems like a contractor wanted to go out of their way to use Wheelock devices. All other schools in the district with an EST3 system have matching Edwards pull stations and Genesis notifications.

The EST BPSs are not capable of Wheelock sync; either there are Wheelock sync modules somewhere or the power supply in question is a non-EST power supply that is capable of Wheelock sync.

Oh jeez, unsynced continuous horn MTs: I can't think of a less NFPA 72/ADA-compliant system (not only that but most of the MTs seem to be flashing faster than 1FPS/60FPM). Has to be ear-destroying too. _All_ the pull stations on an _entire floor_ are hooked to _one zone!?_ Now that's just bad design if you ask me... 3:01 Okay: what's with all the stuff in that hallway? That's dangerous during an emergency you know! (particularly since some of it blocks the exit) 4:08 Well doesn't that room look like a powder keg waiting to go up in flames!

My colleague mentioned the unsynced strobes as well, but these strobes can't be synced (if synced strobes were needed, you had to order a different model). Plus, in the vast majority of the building, there's only one horn per hallway/area, so despite the lack of synchronization, it does meet code, as there isn't more than one strobe in the field of view at a time. @ 3:01: this was done over spring break and the school is undergoing a merger, so things are being shuffled around a bit. @ 4:08: that's the maintenance shop.

@@weatherdan882002 Ah, yeah: something for this system's next upgraders to do then I guess! (if that's ever done of course) I saw a few instances where two or more strobes were visible at once though (including right at the start). Ah alright. The latter they still might want to look into when it comes to reducing the flammability/amount of flammable material in the room though.

Why are so many EST systems in your area like to use Wheelock devices. Is it because of what the technicians prefer?

A lot are 90s to early 2000s installations. We still have plenty of systems that have either Integrity or Genesis signals installed.

@@jacobisworld9516 you wools have hated the junior/senior building at my high school back in the 90s. The system was a simplex with 9838s on strobe plates set to continuous and what’s worse is the contractors put horn/strobes in the bathrooms

@bjthedjdutchdude1992 what's even weirder was that the freshman/sophomore building had its own panel same horn and strobe plate set up but the panel in that one was set on March time
